Daniel: I have to perform emergency surgery, Rachel. I won't make it home tonight.
Rachel looked down from the balcony, her eyes locked onto his gold jacket.
Rachel: Then turn around and look up, Daniel!
Daniel stopped talking immediately, his body freezing near the gate.
Daniel: Rachel?!
Rachel didn't answer him over the phone line anymore. She clicked the end button on her screen and began walking down the wide marble staircase toward the main floor. The loud sound of her high heels echoed against the hard tile floor with every single step she took. Travelers turned their heads to watch her, sensing the thick tension radiating from her maroon suit. Rachel pulled a thick manila folder out of her leather bag. Inside were official court documents and a legal divorce decree that her lawyer had prepared weeks ago just in case her suspicions turned out to be true. She had hoped she would never need to open that folder, but now it was the only weapon she had left to protect herself and her assets. She marched directly through the crowd under the massive American flag hanging from the terminal ceiling.
Daniel stood completely still near the seating area, his face pale white like a sheet of paper. His ex-wife looked confused, holding her two young children close to her blue dress as she noticed the sudden shift in his expression. People in the terminal stopped walking, noticing the sharp look on Rachel's face as she approached the family. The air felt heavy, like a storm was about to break inside the air-conditioned room. Daniel took a slow step backward, looking around nervously as if searching for an emergency exit that did not exist. He tried to hide the expensive plane tickets in his jacket pocket, but Rachel had already seen them clear as day. She stopped just two feet away from him, her posture straight and her eyes burning with pure fury. The surrounding crowd went completely silent, waiting to see what was about to happen next.
Rachel: Is this where your emergency surgery is happening, Daniel?
Daniel: Rachel, please let me explain. It is not what it looks like at all.
Rachel: Do not say another word to me.
Daniel: She needed help with the kids! I was just helping them board their flight!
Rachel: You kissed her on the lips right in front of my eyes!
Daniel swallowed hard, his eyes darting toward his ex-wife who looked equally stunned. Rachel reached into her manila envelope and pulled out the legal papers. She stepped forward until she was chest-to-chest with him. Before Daniel could react or say another word of defence, Rachel pulled back her right hand and slapped him hard across his left cheek. The sharp crack sound rang across the open terminal floor, causing several bystanders to gasp out loud. Daniel stumbled sideways from the force of the blow, holding his reddened face in total disbelief. Before he could regain his balance, Rachel swung her hand back around and slapped him hard across his right cheek again. The impact echoed loudly under the tall ceiling, leaving his face burning bright red in front of the entire crowd.
