Julianna’s eyes darted around the grand room like a trapped animal. The slick, refined image she had maintained for three years was completely shattered. She reached into her expensive handbag, her fingers trembling as she pulled out her phone.
Julianna: You think a judge will take the word of an unstable domestic maid over mine? I am the daughter of a state senator, Harrison! My family holds power in this state!
Harrison: I do not care if your father is the President of the United States! You stole three years of my wife's life and ruined our family!
Clara: She did not just steal my life, Harrison. If you want proof right now, check the private estate safe located in the back library.
Julianna stopped instantly, her thumb hovering over her phone screen. Her eyes widened with genuine horror as she stared at Clara.
Julianna: Do not you dare go near my private safe!
Harrison: Your private safe? That safe belonged to my father! Clara, what did she hide inside that room?
Clara: Inside that safe, behind the legal papers, is the original ledger from the yacht charter company. It shows she hired two men to alter the boat's guardrail hours before we left the dock three years ago.
Harrison’s face hardened into a cold mask of fury. He turned toward the double doors, holding Noah tight against his shoulder while extending his free hand to Clara.
Harrison: Clara, come with me right now. We are going straight to the library.
Julianna: You cannot open that safe without my personal digital key code!
Clara: The code is the date you forced Harrison to sign the engagement papers, Julianna. You were boastful enough to use it for everything in this house.
Julianna gasped, dropping her phone onto the hardwood floor. She lunged forward to stop them, but Harrison turned fast, his voice booming through the high-ceilinged room with massive authority.
Harrison: Do not move a single step closer to my family, Julianna! If you step toward us, I will personally throw you down those front steps!
Harrison took Clara’s hand, his fingers weaving firmly through hers for the first time in three long years. Together, they walked out of the formal dining hall, leaving Julianna standing alone amongst the broken glass and cold serving trays.
They moved quickly down the long grand hallway, past the family portraits that lined the wallpapered walls. Noah rested his small head on Harrison’s shoulder, his quiet breaths calming down as he felt the warmth of both his parents beside him.
They entered the quiet library, a massive room filled with floor-to-ceiling wooden bookshelves and heavy leather chairs. Behind a large oil painting near the corner desk sat the built-in steel safe.
Harrison reached out, punching in the digits Clara had provided. The heavy electronic lock clicked loudly, and the solid steel door swung open smoothly.
Inside, resting on top of stacks of corporate documents, was a thick manila folder marked with private clinic seals, along with the original charter records from the boat company. Harrison reached in, his hands shaking as he pulled out the paper trail that proved every single word Clara had spoken.
Harrison: My God... it is all here. The payment records, the clinic transfers, the maintenance logs for the yacht railing... she planned every detail.
Clara: She wanted the Sterling name, Harrison. She wanted the estate, the trust fund, and the position in society. She thought if I was gone, she could step right into my shoes.
Harrison: I was so blinded by grief three years ago, Clara. I was so broken after the accident that I let her handle everything. I almost let her raise our son.
Clara: You were grieving, Harrison. She manipulated your pain from the very first day.
Noah reached down from Harrison’s arms, extending his small hand to gently touch Clara’s cheek, wiping away a stray tear that fell down her face.
Noah: Mommy, are you going to stay in my room tonight? No more maid clothes?
Clara: No more maid clothes, my sweet boy. Mommy is never, ever leaving you again.
Harrison wrapped his free arm around Clara, pulling her tight against his chest. Tears spilled from his own eyes as he kissed the top of her head, feeling the warmth of the woman he thought he had lost forever.
