Chloe: That... that camera was disconnected months ago.
Mark: No, it wasn't.
Chloe: What do you mean no it wasn't?! I specifically told the technician to turn off all exterior surveillance after the funeral!
Mark: The technician didn't listen to you, Chloe. I told him to keep them on.
Chloe: You... you what?
Mark: I had the entire system upgraded last week. High definition, cloud storage, live audio feeds.
Chloe stared up at the sleek black glass dome mounted seamlessly into the wooden slats. A tiny, steady red light was glowing softly from within the dark housing, pointing directly at the spot where she had stepped on Victoria's fingers.
Chloe: You're lying. You're just trying to scare me!
Mark: I am not lying to you! Look at the red indicator light!
Victoria: It recorded everything... every single second.
Chloe: Shut up, Victoria! Mark, tell me that system isn't recording to a server!
Mark: It streams directly to the security company's offsite server in real time. I couldn't delete that footage right now even if I wanted to.
Chloe: Why would you upgrade the cameras without telling me?! This is my house!
Mark: Because things haven't been making sense lately, Chloe! The mortgage payments, the missing funds from the estate account, the sudden changes to your father-in-law's will!
Chloe: I am your wife! You were supposed to support me!
Mark: I supported you when I thought you were just protecting your husband's memory! I didn't sign up for attempted murder!
Chloe: Attempted murder?! Don't be dramatic! She slipped and fell!
Victoria: You stomped on my hand, Chloe! You yelled 'stay down' while I was drowning!
Chloe: It was an accident! I lost my balance!
Mark: The camera caught your face, Chloe. It caught your words, the audio, and the exact angle of your shoe hitting her hand.
Chloe’s face turned completely white. The confident, arrogant smirk she had worn just moments ago vanished, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated panic. She took a step back into the shallow end of the pool, water sloshing around her legs.
Chloe: Mark, you have to help me. We can call the tech company. We can pay them off to wipe the hard drives!
Mark: It doesn't work like that. The system automatically uploads back-ups to a legal compliance cloud.
Victoria: Which means my divorce lawyer and my probate attorney will have a copy by the end of the afternoon.
Chloe: You set me up... both of you!
Mark: Nobody set you up! You chose to put your heel on an old woman's hand!
Chloe: I was defending my home!
Mark: You were trying to kill my late father's daughter so she wouldn't challenge the lawsuit!
Chloe began to shake, her soaked clothes pulling down on her as she looked back and forth between Mark's furious eyes and the dark camera dome hanging quietly above them.
Chloe: Mark, please... we can fix this. Think about the family business. Think about our reputation!
Mark: Our reputation was destroyed the moment you decided to treat this family like your personal bank account.
