David walked across the foyer, stopping right in front of Sarah. He looked at the bruised knees on her uniform, then down at his small daughter, who was looking up at him with big, curious brown eyes.
David: Sarah... I don't even know how to begin repaying you. You saved my daughter's life today.
Sarah: You don't owe me anything, Mr. Sterling. I love Chloe like she was my own family. I would have dived across that floor a hundred times over to keep her safe.
David: You aren't going to be a maid in this house anymore, Sarah.
Sarah's eyes widened with sudden worry, her grip on Chloe tightening slightly.
Sarah: Sir...? Are you firing me?
David: Firing you? Absolutely not! I am promoting you to Chloe's full-time guardian and house manager. You'll have your own suite on the east wing, a full corporate salary, and complete control over this estate.
Sarah: Mr. Sterling... I... I don't know what to say! That's too generous!
David: It's not nearly enough for the woman who saved my child's life while her own stepmother tried to end it.
David reached out, gently taking Chloe into his arms and holding her close against his chest. Tears filled his eyes as he kissed the top of his baby's soft forehead.
David: We're going to build a real family here, Chloe. No more lies, no more fake people, and no more fear.
Six months later, the bright morning sun shone through the windows of the Dallas estate once again. The heavy gloom that Victoria had brought into the mansion was completely gone, replaced by soft music and warm laughter echoing through the halls.
Down in the foyer, one-year-old Chloe was crawling happily across a thick, soft rug placed over the marble floor, chasing a small red rolling ball. Sarah sat nearby in a comfortable chair, wearing a soft blue dress instead of her old maid uniform, smiling brightly as she watched the child play.
Sarah: Look at her go, David! She's getting faster every single day!
David walked out of his home office carrying two fresh glasses of lemonade, a relaxed smile on his face.
David: She gets her energy from you, Sarah. You've brought so much light back into this house.
Sarah: Mr. Vance called from the courthouse this morning while you were in your meeting.
David: What did the judge decide?
Sarah: Victoria's final appeal was officially rejected. She was sentenced to twenty-five years without the possibility of parole.
David: Good. Justice has finally been served, and my daughter is safe forever.
David handed a glass of lemonade to Sarah, then knelt down on the rug to lift Chloe into his arms. The little girl giggled softly, wrapping her tiny arms around her father's neck as the United States flag on the wall stood proud behind them in the bright Texas sun.
David: We finally have a home, sweet girl. A real, safe home.
