Lies on the Marble Floor

Chloe: A... a camera? What are you talking about, Marcus?

Marcus: The dome camera mounted right above the archway, Chloe. The one connected to the main security network.

Chloe: That camera is old! It hasn't been working since last winter!

Marcus: I had the entire estate system rewired three days ago. High definition, cloud backup, live audio recording.

Chloe: You... you rewired the security without telling me?

Marcus: Why would I tell you? You've been spending the family money like it belongs to you alone!

Elena: Marcus, my wrist... she grabbed me when I tried to walk away...

Marcus: Let me see it, Elena. Take it easy.

Marcus gently helped Elena stand up from the damp checkered floor. Red wine dripped from her dress onto the polished white marble, leaving a trail of dark spots. He took off his suit jacket and placed it carefully around Elena's cold shoulders.

Chloe: Marcus! Why are you putting your jacket on her?! I am your fiancee!

Marcus: Not anymore, Chloe. The engagement is officially off.

Chloe: You can't break up with me over a spilled drink! This is insane!

Marcus: It wasn't a spilled drink! You poured a full bottle of wine over my late uncle's daughter while she was begging you to stop!

Chloe: She was trespassing! She doesn't have a right to come into this mansion whenever she wants!

Elena: I have a key, Chloe! My father built this house! My name is on the land deed!

Chloe: Your father died six months ago, Elena! My mother married him, which makes her the sole owner of this property!

Marcus: Your mother forged the codicil to the estate will, Chloe. And we both know it.

Chloe: That is a disgusting lie! How dare you accuse my mother of forgery!

Marcus: The probate lawyer received the forensic handwriting report this morning. Your mother's signature on the amendment didn't match the original documents.

Chloe took a step back, her gold sequin dress catching the bright hallway lights. Her face, which had been full of arrogance just moments ago, suddenly turned pale and weak.

Chloe: That report is wrong. My mother loved Arthur! She would never fake his signature!

Marcus: She faked his signature to steal the trust fund, the private stock portfolio, and this very house.

Elena: You thought you could scare me into giving up my father's memory, didn't you, Chloe?

Chloe: Shut up, Elena! You were always a spoiled brat who expected everything handed to her!

Marcus: Lower your voice in this house, Chloe! You are standing in a crime scene right now!

Chloe: A crime scene?! Are you out of your mind?! I didn't commit any crime!

Marcus: Pouring liquid on someone by force is physical assault. Threatening her over her inheritance is extortion.

Chloe: Nobody is going to arrest me for throwing wine!

Marcus: The police officers outside might disagree with you.

Chloe froze. The faint sound of sirens began to echo down the long drive outside the front gates, growing louder by the second.

Chloe: You called the police on me?!

Marcus: I called them ten minutes ago when I saw the live security notification on my phone. I watched you grab her arm before I even stepped out of my car.

Chloe: Marcus, please... we can talk about this! We're supposed to get married in two months!

Marcus: There isn't going to be a wedding. The only place you're going in two months is a courtroom.
