Two weeks later, the morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the top-floor bakery in downtown Dallas.
The sweet smell of freshly baked vanilla, dark chocolate, and ripe berries filled the air. Leo sat comfortably on a high wooden chair at the counter, wearing a small white chef's hat with his name embroidered in gold thread.
Leo: Daddy! Look! It has stars on it!
In front of the little boy sat a custom-made three-tier cake, covered in rich cream frosting and overflowing with fresh blackberries, blueberries, and edible gold dust.
Julian: Do you like it, buddy?
Leo: I love it! Is this all for me?
Julian: It's all for you, Leo. Nobody is ever going to kick your plate again.
Julian smiled, leaning down to kiss his son's head as Mr. Harrison walked into the bakery carrying a stack of legal documents.
Mr. Harrison: Good morning, Julian. I have the updates from the courthouse.
Julian: How did the bail hearing go for Evelyn?
Mr. Harrison: The judge denied bail due to the extent of the corporate fraud charges. She will remain in federal custody until her trial in November.
Julian: And Marcus?
Mr. Harrison: Marcus signed over his remaining company shares to pay back the two million dollars he embezzled. He has officially moved out of Texas and taken a entry-level job in Oklahoma.
Julian: Good. He finally has to work for his own living.
Leo: Daddy, try the cake! It's so yum!
Leo held up a big plastic spoon loaded with blackberry cake, reaching toward his father's mouth. Julian laughed warmly, taking a bite as the little boy giggled in delight.
Julian: Mmm! That is the best cake in the entire world, Leo.
Mr. Harrison: It's wonderful to see him smiling again, Julian. You did the right thing standing up for him.
Julian: A father's first job is to protect his child, Mr. Harrison. I let Evelyn push me around for years because I wanted to keep the peace, but the moment she touched my son, she sealed her own fate.
Mr. Harrison: The Sterling estate is officially secured in a irrevocable trust for Leo when he turns eighteen. No one can ever touch it again.
Julian: Thank you, Harrison. For everything.
Julian looked out the bakery window at the Dallas skyline. The American flag fluttered proudly atop the central tower against the clear blue sky, signaling a new chapter of peace, dignity, and family honor.
