The Shattered Plate

Her Stepmother Kicked Her Toddler's Cake Until Her Husband Arrived

Evelyn: How dare you lay your hands on me! I am the mistress of this estate!

Julian: You're a monster who just kicked a three-year-old child because you couldn't control your own pathetic jealousy!

Victoria: Julian, calm down! You're ruining my engagement celebration in front of the entire Dallas society!

Julian: Engagement celebration? You think you're marrying into my family after speaking to my son like that?

Julian turned his fierce glare toward Victoria, stepping over the ruined wedding cake on the ground. Victoria instinctively shrank back behind her mother, her arrogant smile completely gone.

Victoria: I am going to be your stepmother-in-law! You owe me respect!

Julian: You owe my son an apology on your knees, or you won't walk out of this courtyard with a single dime!

Leo: Daddy... my suit is dirty...

Leo's small, trembling voice broke through the loud argument. Julian immediately lowered his breathing, turning back to look at his boy. He knelt down again, taking out his silk pocket square to wipe the remaining tears from Leo's subtle freckled cheeks.

Julian: It's okay, Leo. Daddy will buy you ten new suits. And you can eat all the cake you want.

Leo: She was mean, Daddy. She said I don't belong here.

Julian: She was wrong, buddy. This whole estate belongs to you. Not to her, and not to Victoria.

Evelyn let out a harsh, bitter laugh as she adjusted her silk jacket, trying to regain her composure in front of the whispering crowd of guests.

Evelyn: Don't fill the boy's head with lies, Julian. Your father's will clearly states that as his widow, I hold the primary deed to the Sterling estate and the family trust fund!

Julian: My father's will was written eight years ago, Evelyn. Before he found out what you were doing behind his back.

Evelyn: What nonsense are you talking about? Your father loved me until his final breath!

Julian: He loved you until he realized you were poisoning his medicine to speed up his inheritance!

A loud, collective gasp rippled through the garden. Guests began pulling out their phones, recording the intense standoff as Evelyn's eyes widened in sheer panic.

Evelyn: That is slander! I will sue you for defamation!

Julian: Sue me? I don't need to sue you, Evelyn. I have the medical records, and I have the real codicil my father signed three days before he died in the Dallas hospital.

Victoria: Codicil? What codicil?! Marcus said there was no second will!

Julian: Marcus lied to you, Victoria. Just like he lied about his family's net worth when he proposed to you last month.

Julian pulled a sealed black leather folder from his inner suit jacket pocket. He held it up in the bright natural daylight, the gold Sterling crest shining against the sun.

Julian: In this folder is the legal proof that my father stripped Evelyn of every single asset the moment he realized she was stealing from his corporate accounts.

Evelyn: Give me that paper! Give it to me right now!

Evelyn lunged forward with her manicured nails outstretched, but Julian's personal security team stepped in, blocking her path with a solid wall of dark suits.

Julian: Touch me or my son again, Evelyn, and you won't even make it to the reading of the will before the police put you in handcuffs.

Leo: Daddy, is the bad lady going away?

Julian: Yes, Leo. She's going away for a very long time.
