The distant sound of police sirens echoed down the suburban Dallas street, growing louder as three patrol cars turned into the country club driveway.
Inside the pool yard, Jack held Clara pinned against the concrete ledge, her knees shaking so violently she could barely stand.
Clara: *Sobbing* Please, Jack... I'll confess to everything... just pull me back from the water!
Jack: You're going to confess to the cops, to the judge, and to the entire family!
Heavy footsteps pounded across the concrete deck as four uniformed Dallas police officers hurried through the archway, their handguns drawn.
Officer Ramirez: Police! Put your hands up and step away from the pool edge immediately!
Jack: Officer, I am holding a suspect who just attempted to murder my seven-year-old daughter!
Clara: Officer, help me! He's crazy! He was trying to drown me!
Officer Ramirez: Everyone stay calm! Sir, step back from the lady right now so we can assess the situation!
Jack slowly released his grip on Clara's dress collar, taking two steps backward with his wet hands raised in the air.
Jack: Check her right dress pocket, Officer. She has the digital remote key that opens the luxury aquarium hatch into the swimming pool.
Officer Ramirez motioned to his partner, who stepped forward and immediately reached into Clara's tie-dye dress pocket, pulling out a small black electronic transmitter with a red flashing light.
Officer Davis: Got the transmitter right here, Ramirez. The digital display says 'Aquarium Gate 2 - Unlocked.'
Clara: That's not mine! He planted that on me when he grabbed my dress!
Guest 4: That's a complete lie, Officer! I saw her holding that black remote right before the little girl fell in!
Guest 2: I saw it too! She shoved the girl from behind while handing her the teddy bear!
Officer Ramirez looked down at the pool, where the dark fin of the seven-foot shark briefly broke the surface before diving back down into the clear blue depth.
Officer Ramirez: Holy... is that a live shark in a suburban swimming pool?!
Jack: She opened the glass partition wall to let the predator enter the public pool area while my daughter was standing by the ledge.
Officer Ramirez: Officer Davis, place this woman under arrest for attempted capital murder, child endangerment, and felony assault.
Clara: You can't arrest me! I'm a Sterling! My family's lawyer will destroy all of you in court!
Officer Ramirez: Turn around and put your hands behind your back, ma'am. You have the right to remain silent.
The steel handcuffs clicked shut around Clara's wrists. She kicked her feet and screamed as the officers dragged her away from the poolside deck toward the waiting police cars.
Clara: Jack! Tell them to let me go! You can't let them take me to jail! Think about our father's legacy!
Jack: You destroyed our father's legacy today, Clara. Enjoy your new home in a state prison cell.
