The Confession By The Pool

Jack: An accident? You opened the aquarium release hatch ten minutes before the party started, didn't you?

Clara: What?! Are you insane? Why would I ever open the aquarium display door?!

Jack: Because if Lily died in a tragic accident today, your monthly stipend from our father's family estate trust fund would double!

Clara: That's a disgusting lie! How dare you accuse me of something so terrible in front of our friends!

Guest 2: Wait, is he serious? Did she open the shark tank gate on purpose?

Guest 3: Look at her hands! She's shaking!

Jack: I saw the digital hatch key sticking out of your dress pocket when you handed her that bear, Clara!

Clara took a step backward, her eyes darting nervously toward the exit gates of the poolside lawn.

Clara: You're hallucinating because you swallowed too much pool water, Jack! I love Lily! I would never hurt my own niece!

Lily: *Sobbing* She told me to stand by the edge, Daddy! She said the bear wanted to see the water!

Jack: You used a child's innocence to try and murder her for money!

Clara: Shut up, you little brat! You're making up stories just like your mother used to do!

Before Clara could take another step toward the gate, Jack closed the distance between them with terrifying speed. His wet leather shoes slapped against the tile as he reached out with his right hand, grabbing Clara firmly by the neck of her colorful tie-dye dress.

Clara: ACK! Let go of me, Jack! You're hurting me!

Jack: You like throwing my daughter to the fish? Then taste it yourself!

Jack tightened his grip on her collar, squeezing until Clara's face turned beet red, her hands clawing desperately at his soaking wet sleeves as she sobbed in terror.

Clara: *Gasping* *Sobbing* Jack... please... I'm your sister... don't do this!

Jack: Sister? You stopped being my sister the second you put a deadly beast in the water with a seven-year-old child!

Clara: I was desperate, Jack! The bank is foreclosing on my apartment next week! The trust fund wouldn't release my inheritance early!

Jack: So you decided to trade my daughter's life for a payout?!

Clara: I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please don't throw me in there!

Jack dragged her straight to the edge of the deep end, forcing her to look down into the churning blue water where the massive shadow was still swimming beneath the surface.

Jack: Look at it, Clara! Look at what you put my baby through!

Clara: *Screaming* NO! NO! GET ME AWAY FROM THE EDGE! SOMEBODY HELP ME!

Guest 1: Jack, don't kill her! The police are already on their way!

Jack: She doesn't deserve a second of mercy!
