Chloe: "Dad! Stop it! What are you doing?!"
Arthur: "Get away from him, Chloe! Get away from this traitor!"
Mark: "Traitor?! Are you out of your mind, Arthur?! Your daughter just assaulted a pregnant woman!"
Mark pulled himself up from the shattered wooden chairs, rubbing his bruised shoulder. His grey suit jacket was covered in grass stains, but his focus remained entirely on Hannah, who was still weeping on the ground.
Mark: "Hannah, are you okay? Can you stand?"
Hannah: "The baby... the baby kicked really hard when she pulled me... Mark, it hurts..."
Chloe: "Oh, stop acting, Hannah! You're fine! You're just trying to make Mark pity you so he'll look at you instead of me!"
Mark: "Chloe, shut your mouth! Don't you dare say another word to her!"
Arthur: "Don't you talk to my daughter like that, Mark! You have no right!"
Mark: "No right? I'm marrying her in ten minutes! Or at least, I was supposed to!"
Mark walked past Chloe, kneeling beside Hannah on the grass. He carefully wrapped his arm around her back, helping her lift her weight off her knees. Chloe’s eyes burned with red-hot jealousy as she watched her groom touch her sister.
Chloe: "Look at you two! Look at how you touch her! I knew it! I knew there was something going on between you two!"
Mark: "She is carrying my brother's baby, Chloe! My late brother! Have you lost all humanity?!"
Chloe: "Your late brother has been dead for six months, Mark! But you spend more time taking care of her than you do planning our wedding!"
Arthur: "She is carrying the Vance family's only biological grandchild, Chloe! Of course she comes first!"
Mark: "Vance family grandchild? Arthur, David was my brother. His surname was Miller. Why are you calling his unborn child a Vance?"
Arthur froze for a split second, his jaw tightening as he realized what he had just blurted out. He adjusted his black bowtie, his eyes narrowing.
Arthur: "You don't know what you're talking about, boy. You're just a glorified accountant who got lucky when Chloe picked you."
Mark: "I know enough to know that something is deeply wrong here. You made me sign a prenuptial agreement three days ago that waives all rights to David's estate."
Chloe: "That was for security! My father was just protecting our family trust!"
Mark: "David didn't have a family trust, Chloe! He was a freelance graphic designer who lived in a rented two-bedroom apartment in Fort Worth! Why would a prenuptial agreement for OUR wedding mention my brother's life insurance policy?"
Hannah wiped the tears from her eyes, looking up at Mark with a wide, terrified gaze.
Hannah: "Mark... what are you saying?"
Mark: "I'm saying your father and Chloe have been lying to both of us."
Chloe: "That's a lie! Dad, tell him he's crazy!"
Arthur: "Mark, if you don't step back to that altar right now and finish this ceremony, I will ruin your career in Dallas before the sun sets."
Mark: "You can't threaten me anymore, Arthur. I called the insurance adjuster this morning."
Arthur’s face paled, the furious red hue draining from his skin instantly. He took a slow step back toward the gazebo, his posture losing its aggressive confidence.
Arthur: "You... you did what?"
Mark: "David didn't die in a random car accident on Highway 75, did he?"
Hannah: "What?! Mark, what do you mean?!"
Mark: "The brake lines on David's car were cut, Hannah. And thirty minutes before his accident, someone altered his primary beneficiary from you to Arthur Vance's real estate holding company."
