The Law Catches Up

Her Father Came Home to Save Her Life

The sound of heavy boots echoed up the grand staircase as three uniformed state troopers pushed their way into the master bedroom, weapons drawn at their sides.

State Trooper: Police! Nobody move! General Vance?

Marcus: Officer, over here. I have the suspect restrained on the floor. He attempted to assault my daughter and then attempted to strike a military officer.

State Trooper: Stand up slowly, sir. Keep your hands where we can see them.

Grant: He attacked me! Look at my wrist! He's using his military power to abuse us!

State Trooper: Sir, keep your mouth shut. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

Evelyn: Officer, you are making a massive mistake! I am Evelyn Montgomery! My husband was the former district commissioner!

State Trooper: Ma'am, step back from the bed. We received an emergency signal from General Vance's military dispatch ten minutes ago reporting an ongoing domestic hostage situation.

Claire: Officer... I have the audio recording of him threatening my life and my baby's life right here on this tablet.

State Trooper: Hand the device over to my deputy, ma'am. We also have an ambulance arriving at the front gate to take you to the university hospital for a full medical evaluation.

Marcus: I'll accompany my daughter in the ambulance, officer. My keys to the lower office are right here. You'll find forged federal documents and illegal asset transfers inside the master desk safe.

Grant: Mom, call Harrison! Tell him to get to the police station right now!

Evelyn: Don't say another word, Grant! We are going to fight this in court!

State Trooper: Ma'am, you are coming with us too. We have statements alleging your participation in holding a pregnant woman against her will and withholding emergency medical care.

Evelyn: What? You can't arrest me! I didn't touch her!

State Trooper: Deprivation of medical care for a pregnant victim constitutes third-degree felony neglect under state statute. Put your hands behind your back, ma'am.

Evelyn gasped in horror as the steel handcuffs clicked firmly around her wrists, pinning her hands behind her expensive beige skirt.

Grant was hoisted up by two troopers, his navy shirt torn at the collar, his forehead red from being held against the marble floor.

Grant: You ruined my life, Claire! You ruined everything!

Claire: You ruined your own life the day you thought you could hurt me and get away with it.

Marcus: Take them out of my house, officers. I don't ever want to see their faces on this property again.

The troopers dragged Grant and Evelyn down the hallway, their loud complaints echoing down the marble corridors until the front door slammed shut behind them.
