Ethan: Lily, baby, are you okay? Did you get hurt in here?
Lily: Daddy! I was so scared! It was pitch dark and the door wouldn't open!
Ethan: Shh, I've got you. Daddy's right here. Nobody is ever going to lock you in a dark room again.
Chloe: Ethan, please listen to me before you make a huge scene! It wasn't like that at all!
Ethan: You locked a six-year-old child in a storage closet on our wedding day, Chloe! How could you do this?!
Chloe: She was spilling juice on her cream dress! She was crying and throwing a fit because she wanted her mom! I couldn't have her ruining our pictures in front of two hundred guests!
Ethan: She's a child, Chloe! Her mother passed away three years ago! Of course she misses her on a day like today!
Lily: She said after today I wouldn't be family anymore... She said I was going away to a school far away...
Ethan felt his heart drop into his stomach. He looked down at Lily's tear-stained cheeks, then slowly stood up, holding his daughter tightly against his chest. His eyes fixed on Chloe with a cold, terrifying stillness.
Ethan: What did you tell my daughter, Chloe?
Chloe: She misunderstood what I said, Ethan! I was just explaining that things would change after we got married!
Ethan: You told my six-year-old girl that she wouldn't be part of this family after today?
Chloe: I was stressed out! My mother has been pressuring me all morning about the ceremony, and Lily wouldn't sit still! I just needed her to stay out of the way for one hour!
Ethan: She is my daughter. She is the most important person in my life. She will never be out of the way.
Chloe: We spent over one hundred thousand dollars on this wedding, Ethan! My parents invited all their business partners and investors! You can't ruin this over a temporary misunderstanding!
Ethan: This isn't a misunderstanding. You showed me exactly who you are before I walked down that aisle.
Ethan raised his left hand under the bright lights of the corridor. He grabbed the gold wedding band that Chloe had placed on his finger during their private rehearsal ceremony, slid it off his knuckle, and held it out toward her.
Chloe: Ethan... what are you doing with your ring? Put that back on!
Ethan: The wedding is over.
Chloe: No! You can't do this to me! Think about my family! Think about my reputation!
Ethan: And this time, I choose my daughter.
Ethan turned his back on Chloe and walked down the marble hallway, holding Lily close to his chest while Chloe screamed his name behind him. The sound of her heavy lace dress rustled against the floor as she chased after him toward the main ballroom.
Chloe: Ethan, stop! You come back here right now!
Ethan: Don't touch me, Chloe. Don't come anywhere near Lily or me.
Chloe: My father paid for this entire venue! You owe my family an explanation before you walk out that door!
Ethan: Oh, your family will get an explanation, Chloe. Right in front of every single guest sitting in that room.
