The crystal chandeliers cast a brilliant, high-key glow across the white walls of the luxury ballroom. Music played softly in the background while guests sipped champagne, celebrating what was supposed to be the most magical day of Ethan's life. But as Ethan stood near the front alter in his black tuxedo and cream bow tie, his smile suddenly vanished. He looked across the crowded room, his eyes scanning every table, every corner, and every chair. His six-year-old daughter, Lily, was nowhere to be found. She was supposed to be his flower girl, wearing her cream lace dress and standing right beside him.
Ethan: Where is Lily? Has anyone seen my daughter?
Groomsman: I thought she was in the bridal suite with Chloe, man. Maybe she needed help with her shoes.
Ethan: She promised me she wouldn't leave the main hall without telling me first.
A strange, cold feeling settled deep in Ethan's chest. Leaving his groomsmen behind, he turned and sprinted out of the ballroom, his polished shoes slapping rapidly against the marble floors of the brightly lit hallway. He checked the lounge, the dressing rooms, and the restroom corridor, calling her name into the silence. Then he heard a muffled sob coming from the narrow utility corridor at the very end of the hall. He ran toward a white wooden door, grabbing the gold door handle and rattling it with all his strength, but it was locked tight from the outside.
Ethan: Lily! Are you in there?!
Bride: Ethan! Wait, don't open that!
Ethan spun around to see his bride, Chloe, rushing down the corridor in her white lace gown and veil. Her breath was short, and her face was pale under the bright hallway lights. She reached for his arm, trying to pull him away from the door.
Ethan: Who locked you in there?! Why is this door locked, Chloe?!
Chloe: I just didn't want her to ruin our wedding day!
Ethan froze, staring at his bride in utter disbelief. He turned away in pure rage, opening the side latch and throwing the door wide open. Inside the dark, windowless room, little Lily sat weeping on a metal folding chair, clutching her cream dress. Ethan dropped to his knees, scooping her up into his arms while Chloe stood in the doorway. As he held his sobbing daughter close, the cold reality of what he was doing finally hit him, pulling off his gold wedding ring once and for all.
