Carter: "Security! Hold her right there!"
Security Officer: "Yes, Mr. Sterling!"
Two private security guards in dark suits ran across the lawn, grabbing Evelyn by her arms before she could run toward the garage.
Evelyn: "Let go of me! How dare you lay hands on the owner of this estate!"
Carter: "You aren't the owner anymore, Evelyn. Father left the entire property to Lily in his updated will before he passed!"
Evelyn: "What... what did you say?!"
Carter: "Did you really think I didn't find the documents in the study safe last night?"
Evelyn gasped, her eyes widening in horror as Carter pulled a folded legal envelope from his inner trouser pocket.
Carter: "Father knew what kind of person you were. He knew you would try to steal Lily's inheritance the moment he died."
Evelyn: "That will is a forgery! I am his widow! I am entitled to the house!"
Carter: "The lawyer verified the signature this morning, Evelyn. Everything in this mansion belongs to Lily."
Lily: "Daddy... who are those cars?"
Loud police sirens echoed down the long private driveway. Three Dallas police cruisers pulled up along the manicured lawn, their red and blue emergency lights flashing against the pristine white pillars of the mansion.
Officer Davis: "Dallas Police! Nobody move!"
Carter: "Officer! Over here near the water well!"
Officer Davis and his partner stepped briskly across the green grass, their hands resting near their belts as they surveyed the scene.
Officer Davis: "Mr. Sterling, we received an emergency call regarding a child abduction on the property."
Carter: "My mother, Evelyn Sterling, kidnapped my seven-year-old daughter, tied her up, and tried to lower her into this deep water well."
Evelyn: "Officer, he's lying! This is a domestic dispute over estate funds! I would never hurt my granddaughter!"
Officer Davis: "Ma'am, stay quiet."
Carter: "Look at my daughter's wrists, Officer! Look at the rope and the tape sitting right there on the stone rim!"
Officer Davis walked over to the well, picking up the discarded gray tape and the heavy hemp rope. His face hardened as he looked at the red marks on little Lily's arms.
Officer Davis: "Turn around, ma'am."
Evelyn: "What?! You can't arrest me! I am Evelyn Sterling!"
Officer Davis: "You're under arrest for attempted capital murder, felony child endangerment, and kidnapping."
The officers pulled Evelyn's hands behind her back, snapping heavy iron handcuffs over her wrists. Evelyn shrieked in outrage as her burgundy dress ruffled against the officer's uniform.
Evelyn: "Carter! Tell them to stop! You can't let them drag me out of my own home in chains!"
Carter: "You brought this on yourself, Evelyn. Goodbye."
