The Scars Beneath The Silk

Billionaire Catches Stepmother Dragging Daughter Across Foyer

Evelyn: "Wait, please let me explain!"

Julian: "Explain?! I just watched you drag my ten-year-old daughter across the floor by her hair!"

Evelyn: "She was disrespecting me, Julian! She threw a tantrum in the kitchen and broke your mother's china set!"

Clara: "I didn't break it, Daddy! She dropped it on purpose and blamed me!"

Julian kept his arm firmly around Clara's shoulders, feeling her body shaking against his waist. He looked down at his daughter's red scalp and the visible bruises forming on her bare knees.

Julian: "Is this true, Evelyn? You set up a ten-year-old child?"

Evelyn: "Of course not! Would I lie to you?!"

Julian: "You've been lying to me since the day I put a ring on your finger!"

Julian reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a thick yellow folder tied with a red string. He tossed it down onto the floor right beside Evelyn's face.

Evelyn: "What... what is this?"

Julian: "Open it and read it yourself."

Evelyn's hands trembled as she untied the string and pulled out the top stack of white papers. Her face turned ghost white as she read the bold black headers printed across the top line.

Evelyn: "Where... where did you get these?"

Julian: "My private investigator delivered those to my office an hour ago. That's why I came home early."

Clara: "Daddy, what are those papers?"

Julian: "Stay behind me, Clara. Don't look at her."

Julian stepped closer to Evelyn, his polished shoes stopping inches from her face as she sat weeping on the floor.

Julian: "Those are bank statements from my mother's trust fund. You've been siphoning off fifty thousand dollars a month into a private offshore account in the Caribbean."

Evelyn: "Julian, I can explain that! It was for our estate investments!"

Julian: "Investments?! The account is registered under your maiden name and your ex-husband's social security number!"

Evelyn: "He threatened me, Julian! He made me do it!"

Julian: "Stop talking! Every single word coming out of your mouth is a pathetic lie!"

Clara wiped her nose with the back of her hand, her small voice cutting through the heavy silence of the foyer.

Clara: "Daddy... she told me yesterday that you were going to send me to a boarding school in Europe so she could have the whole house."

Julian's eyes widened in horror as he turned his head to look down at his daughter.

Julian: "She told you what?"

Clara: "She said you didn't want me anymore because I look too much like Mommy."

Julian dropped to his knees again, grabbing Clara's face between his large hands, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

Julian: "Clara, listen to me very carefully. You are my entire world. I would burn this whole mansion to the ground before I ever let anyone send you away."

Clara: "She said if I told you, she would hurt my dog."

Julian stood up slowly, a terrifying stillness coming over his frame as he looked down at Evelyn once more.

Julian: "You threatened my daughter, you stole from my mother's legacy, and you abused a child in my own home."

Evelyn: "Julian, please... think of our standing in the community! Think of the charity board!"

Julian: "The charity board is going to read all about you in the morning news."

Julian reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, clicking the screen to make a call on speakerphone.

Julian: "Marcus, this is Julian. Execute the emergency clause on the prenuptial agreement immediately."

Lawyer Marcus: "Understood, Mr. Vance. Section nine regarding domestic abuse and financial fraud?"

Julian: "Yes. Strip her of all access cards, freeze the joint accounts, and inform the police department that we have a trespasser."

Evelyn: "No! You can't freeze my accounts! I have bills to pay!"

Julian: "You don't have accounts anymore, Evelyn. You have five minutes to leave this property before my security team throws you into the street."
