The Father Arrives

Julian: What the hell is going on out there? Who authorized anyone to open those doors?

Julian's Father: Security! Where is the private security detail I hired?

Standing in the center of the doorway was Arthur Vance. He wore a tailored black suit, his chest heaving with silent rage as his eyes swept past the stunned guests, past the flower arrangements, and settled directly onto his daughter bleeding on the floor.

Clara: Dad...

Arthur: Get your hands off my daughter.

Julian: Listen here, old man! You can't just barge into a private Sterling family event!

Arthur: I said... get away from her!

Arthur didn't slow down. His long, authoritative strides echoed like thunder against the marble tile. Julian barely had time to turn his head before Arthur sprinted the final five yards and delivered a powerful, sweeping kick straight into Julian’s chest.

The impact sounded like a whip crack. Julian was lifted off his feet, crashing backward across the polished floor and skidding into the tiers of the ten-thousand-dollar wedding cake, bringing the entire structure down in a mess of white frosting and shattered glass.

Julian's Mother: MY SON! Oh my god, security, shoot him! Arrest him!

Arthur: Touch me and I will buy this security company before the ambulance arrives to pick your son up off the floor!

Arthur dropped down to his knees beside Clara. His expression transformed instantly from terrifying fury to heartbreak as he saw the deep cuts along her arms and the torn silk of her gown.

Arthur: Clara... look at me, sweetheart. I’m right here.

Clara: Dad... he hit me because I asked why he signed the trust fund papers without me...

Arthur: Don't talk, honey. Just save your breath. Let me look at your arm.

Clara: It hurts so bad... his mother told everyone to stay back and hide it...

Arthur: Nobody is touching you ever again. I swear it on your mother’s memory.

Arthur carefully lifted Clara into his arms, pulling her close against his chest. He stood up slowly, looking down at Julian, who was groaning on the floor, covered in cake icing and clutching his cracked ribs.

Julian's Father: You just committed aggravated assault in front of two hundred witnesses, Vance! You’re going to spend the rest of your life in a federal prison!

Arthur: Is that right, Harrison? You think your family owns the courts in Dallas?

Julian's Father: I own the judges, the district attorney, and half the police force! You just ruined your life over a dramatic girl who couldn't keep her mouth shut!

Arthur: You don't own a single thing in this town anymore, Harrison. You just don't know it yet.

Julian's Mother: Get out of our mansion! Take your pathetic, broken daughter and get off our property!

Arthur: Your property? Look around you, Evelyn. Who do you think holds the primary mortgage deed on this estate?

Evelyn froze, her mouth staying half-open as her hand dropped from her pearl necklace.

Julian's Father: What are you talking about? The bank holds our mortgage!

Arthur: And who bought out forty percent of that bank’s debt portfolio at seven o'clock this morning?

The entire grand hall fell dead silent. The guests, who had been whispering moments ago, stood entirely still as the realization washed over the room.

Arthur: You thought you were marrying your son into money so he could clear your family's failed real estate investments. You thought my daughter was just an innocent girl with a wealthy father who wouldn't notice a missing trust fund.

Julian: Dad... what is he talking about? Dad, tell him he’s lying!

Julian's Father: Shut up, Julian! Vance... we can discuss this privately in the study. There's no need for this scene.

Arthur: The discussion ended the moment your son put his hands on my daughter. Now watch what happens when you cross the wrong family.
