A Sudden Break of Trust

A Wealthy Heir Defends His Maid and Fires His Cruel Bride

David stood like a wall between the helpless maid and the woman he had promised to marry. His chest rose and fell with heavy breaths as he looked down at Evelyn. For months, he had given her the benefit of the doubt, believing her sweet words and charming smiles. But today, the mask had fallen completely away. He looked at the tears streaming down Sarah’s face, a woman who had taken care of his aging parents and kept this house running smoothly for a decade. Then he looked at Evelyn, who still held her wine glass with a slight, defensive tilt of her head.

David: That is enough!

His voice boomed through the high ceilings of the kitchen, echoing off the white crown molding and hard oak floors. The sudden roar made Evelyn jump backward in surprise, nearly dropping her glass. She tried to quickly adjust her posture, pulling her black dress higher and forcing a soft, innocent look onto her face. She reached out her hand to touch David’s arm, expecting him to calm down as he usually did whenever she used her soft tone.

Evelyn: David, darling, you are misunderstanding what just happened here.

David: Do not touch me, Evelyn! I saw everything with my own eyes!

Evelyn: She broke a plate earlier, David! I was simply reminding her how to do her job properly!

Sarah: I... I did not break anything, Mr. David. I promise you...

David: I know you didn't, Sarah. Stand back and let me handle this right now.

David stepped even closer to Evelyn, his posture rigid and commanding. Evelyn’s eyes darted around the room, feeling the shift in power for the very first time. She was used to getting whatever she wanted, using her charm and beauty to manipulate wealthy men into paying her bills and buying her luxury items. But David was not looking at her beauty now; he was looking directly into her soul, and he hated what he saw. The anger that had been building inside him for weeks finally boiled over into an explosive action.

Before Evelyn could utter another lie, David raised his hand and delivered a fast, sharp slap across her left cheek. The sudden impact made a loud cracking sound that echoed through the entire lower floor of the mansion. The force of the strike knocked the crystal wine glass straight from Evelyn’s hand. It flew through the air and shattered violently against the hard oak floor, sending dark red wine and sharp glass shards scattering in every direction across the room. Evelyn gasped loudly, her hand flying up to cover her red, burning cheek as shock filled her eyes.

Sarah gasped in terror, stepping back against the kitchen sink as the red liquid splashed near her shoes. She had never seen David lose his temper like this in all the years she had worked for his family. He was always quiet, polite, and calm, even during high-stress business deals. But seeing the injustice taking place in his own home had pushed him past his limit. Evelyn stood frozen, her jaw wide open, staring at David in complete disbelief as the pain on her cheek began to throb intensely under the bright afternoon sun.

Evelyn: How dare you! How dare you lay a hand on me in front of a servant!

David: Sarah is not a servant, she is family! And you are a stranger who crossed the line!

Evelyn: I am your fiancee! I am going to be the mistress of this estate!

David: Not anymore you're not. Your time in this house is officially over today!
