Lies Before the Mirror

A Wealthy Father Discovers His Fiancée Is Secretly Cruel

David stepped through the front door carrying his leather briefcase in his hand.

He was a successful executive who loved his son more than anything else.

He noticed the heavy tension in the air the moment he crossed the doorway.

Victoria instantly changed her cold expression into a warm and loving smile.

She rushed toward David and placed her hand gently on his dark coat.

“Oh David, thank goodness you are finally home,” Victoria said dramatically.

“What happened here?” David asked, looking at his crying son in Elena’s arms.

“Elena dropped the baby’s toy bag and frightened him,” Victoria lied smoothly.

“I was trying to help her, but she started yelling at me.”

Elena raised her eyes in absolute shock at the false accusation.

“Sir, that is not what happened at all,” Elena begged earnestly.

“She threw the bag down herself to scare the child!”

Victoria gasped loudly and pulled out a small lace handkerchief from her pocket.

“How dare you accuse me of such a cruel thing!” Victoria cried out.

“David, I have tried so hard to be nice to your staff.”

“But she constantly disrespects me whenever you leave the house,” Victoria claimed.

David looked back and forth between his fiancée and his loyal nanny.

He felt confused and deeply bothered by the sudden outburst in his foyer.

He took a slow step forward and reached out for his young son.

“Give Leo to me, Elena,” David instructed in a quiet tone.

Elena carefully handed the weeping child over to his father’s strong arms.

David patted the toddler’s back until the boy’s crying slowed to whimpers.

“I do not like conflict in my home,” David said firmly to both women.

“Victoria is going to be my wife, Elena, so you must show respect.”

Victoria smirked behind David’s back while looking straight at Elena’s eyes.

“Thank you, darling,” Victoria said, smoothing down her sequin dress.

“I think it might be best if we replace her with someone else.”

“We will discuss employment matters later,” David replied with a frown.

“I have an important business call to take in my home office.”

David walked down the hallway toward his private office near the back.

Elena felt her heart sink as she stood alone near the marble stairs.

Victoria leaned over to Elena once again, her voice filled with arrogance.

“I told you he would side with me,” Victoria whispered triumphantly.

“Pack your things by tonight, because your time here is completely over.”
