Two days later, the morning sun poured through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the hospital’s executive penthouse suite. The room was filled with fresh white roses, soft velvet chairs, and a panoramic view of the Dallas skyline.
Emily sat in a plush armchair, wearing a comfortable white silk robe, sipping warm herbal tea while Raymond sat across from her with his tablet computer.
Raymond: The preliminary hearing for Victoria Vance ended an hour ago.
Emily: What did the judge say?
Raymond: Bail was denied. The judge deemed her a flight risk due to her offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands.
Emily: What about her husband?
Raymond: He’s currently facing federal tax fraud charges. Their mansion in Highland Park has been seized by the IRS, and all their luxury vehicles are going to public auction next Tuesday.
Emily: It’s crazy how fast everything fell apart for them.
Raymond: Evil acts always collapse under their own weight, Emily. They just needed someone to shine a light on them.
A knock sounded at the double mahogany doors of the penthouse. Dr. Evans walked in with a warm smile, holding a clipboard and a set of updated medical charts.
Dr. Evans: Good morning, Emily! You’re looking remarkably well today.
Emily: I feel like a completely different person, Doctor. The contractions have completely stopped.
Dr. Evans: That’s fantastic news. Your blood pressure is back to a perfect 120 over 80. The baby is healthy, active, and right on track for your due date next month.
Emily: Can I finally go home today?
Raymond: Home? You're not going back to that tiny studio apartment, Emily. My driver has already moved your things to the estate in Preston Hollow.
Emily: Uncle Raymond... the estate has twelve bedrooms!
Raymond: And it needs a nursery. We’ve already converted the east wing into a master suite for you and the baby.
Emily: I don't know what to say... I never expected any of this when I walked into the hospital two days ago.
Raymond: You don't have to say anything, sweetheart. Just focus on being a mother.
Dr. Evans checked her vitals one last time before setting down his pen with a satisfied nod.
Dr. Evans: You’re officially cleared for discharge, Emily. Congratulations. You’re going to be an incredible mother.
Emily: Thank you, Doctor Evans. For standing up for me when she was screaming in my face.
Dr. Evans: I was just doing my job, Emily. But I’m glad your uncle got here in time to finish the rest.
