The Confrontation In The Hallway

Victoria: Uncle Raymond? Who on earth is Uncle Raymond?

Emily: The man who is about to make you regret touching me.

Victoria: Oh, please! You're a maid! Your family works for pocket change! You think some low-class uncle is going to intimidate me?

Dr. Evans: Mrs. Vance, I strongly advise you to step out into the hallway. The patient's vitals are dropping!

Victoria: I’m not going anywhere until she hands over her written resignation! She breached her employment contract by leaving her shift early!

Emily: I almost lost my baby on the floor of your lobby, Victoria! I begged your supervisor for permission to see a doctor!

Victoria: And she told you to finish your work! That’s what you get paid eight dollars an hour for!

Dr. Evans: Eight dollars an hour? That’s below the state minimum requirement for hazardous hospital labor!

Victoria: Mind your own business, Evans, unless you want your medical license pulled by the board tonight!

The heavy double doors at the end of the third-floor corridor slammed open. The heavy sound of leather boots echoed rapidly against the marble floor, cutting through the low hum of the hospital machinery.

Victoria: What is that noise now?

A tall man in a tailored charcoal suit walked into the room. His silver hair was neatly combed, his jaw set in a hard, dangerous line. Behind him walked four men in dark tactical suits holding leather file briefcases.

Emily: Uncle Raymond...

Raymond: Take your hands off my niece right now.

Victoria: Who do you think you are, barging in here with private security? Security! Call building control!

Raymond: Building control answers to me, Mrs. Vance. As does the entire executive board of this hospital network.

Victoria paused, her smug smile faltering slightly as she looked the man up and down. She glanced at the gold signet ring on his pinky finger, bearing the crest of Vance Global Holdings—the largest medical real estate conglomerate in the state.

Victoria: Raymond... Vance? You're Raymond Vance?

Raymond: That's right. And the girl you just shoved against a hospital bed is my late brother's only daughter.

Dr. Evans: Mr. Vance! Thank goodness... we tried to tell her to back away from the patient!

Victoria: This... this has to be a mistake! She’s listed in our employee directory as a night-shift cleaner!

Raymond: She took that job six months ago because she refused to accept family money after her father passed away! She wanted to earn her own way through college!

Emily: Uncle Raymond... my baby... please check the baby...

Raymond immediately dropped to one knee beside Emily's bed, his massive, calloused hand reaching out to gently hold her small, icy fingers.

Raymond: I’ve got you, Emily. Nobody in this building is ever going to raise their voice to you again.

Dr. Evans: Mr. Vance, we need to run an immediate ultrasound to ensure there's no placental abruption from the physical impact.

Raymond: Do it right now, Doctor. Bring in the chief of obstetrics immediately.

Victoria: Now wait just a minute! Raymond, we can talk about this! My husband is a major shareholder in your firm!

Raymond: Was a shareholder, Mrs. Vance. As of ten minutes ago, my legal team repurchased his entire equity stake at a fifty percent liquidation discount.

Victoria’s face went completely pale, her designer purse slipping out of her fingers and thudding onto the floor.

Victoria: What... what did you say?

Raymond: Your husband’s company is bankrupt. And you are about to be arrested for assault on a pregnant woman.
