Two uniformed Dallas police officers walked into the room, their handcuffs already unclipped from their belts.
Police Officer: Victoria Vance?
Victoria: This is a civil dispute! You have no right to arrest me in a hospital room!
Police Officer: You are under arrest for felony assault on a pregnant person, extortion, and grand larceny. Put your hands behind your back.
Victoria: Raymond! Stop them! We’ve known each other for ten years!
Raymond: And for ten years, I had no idea what a despicable human being you truly were. Take her away, Officer.
The steel handcuffs clicked loudly around Victoria’s wrists. She began to cry out in frantic embarrassment, dragging her heels against the polished tile as the officers led her out into the bright hallway, past dozens of hospital staff who pulled out their phones to record her arrest.
Dr. Evans: Her blood pressure is finally coming back down, Mr. Vance. The baby is out of immediate danger, but Emily needs at least forty-eight hours of strict bed rest.
Raymond: Transfer her to the executive penthouse suite on the top floor immediately. Assign a private nursing team around the clock.
Emily: Uncle Raymond... the penthouse suite costs ten thousand dollars a night! I can't afford that!
Raymond: You aren't paying a dime, Emily. I bought this entire hospital network three years ago. Everything in this building belongs to our family.
Emily: You... you bought the hospital?
Raymond: I did. And I built it so people like your father and you would always have a safe place to go.
Emily looked at her uncle, fresh tears filling her eyes—this time, tears of profound relief. She wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand, feeling the warm, steady pulse of her baby kicking gently against her palm.
Emily: I’m sorry I didn't call you sooner, Uncle. I wanted to prove I could make it on my own without relying on the family name.
Raymond: You are strong, Emily. Just like your father was. But independence doesn't mean you have to face monsters alone.
Emily: What’s going to happen to her cleaning agency now?
Raymond: As of today, the agency’s assets have been seized by my legal team. We are converting the entire business into an employee-owned cooperative.
Emily: An employee-owned cooperative?
Raymond: Every maid, cleaner, and custodian who worked under Victoria Vance will now receive full back pay, health insurance, and equal shares in the company's profits.
Emily: You’re really doing that for them?
Raymond: I’m doing it because it’s the right thing to do. And I want you to be the board president once your baby is born.
Emily smiled through her tears, leaning back against the soft pillows as two nurses carefully unlocked the wheels of her bed to move her to the top-floor suite.
Emily: Board president... I think I’d like that very much.
