Mark tapped the phone screen frantically, dialing three digits without taking his eyes off Victoria.
The dialing beeps rang out loudly against the quiet, high-ceilinged room around them.
Hannah pressed her forehead against Mark's chest, still trembling from the deep horror of the fall.
Mark lifted the phone tightly against his ear, his face dark with absolute rage and betrayal.
"Get the police and an ambulance here right now!" Mark shouted into the speaker phone.
"My mother just pushed my pregnant wife off the second-floor balcony!" he yelled furiously.
Victoria gasped sharply from the high railing, her face turning completely white with panic.
"Mark, stop this foolishness right now, it was an terrible accident!" Victoria called down.
"Do not hang up that phone and ruin our family name over a simple slip!" she pleaded.
Mark ignored her fake cries completely, giving the exact emergency address to the dispatcher.
"Send officers fast before she tries to escape this house," Mark commanded firmly before hanging up.
He gently kissed Hannah's hair, pulling her up into a secure seated position on the floor.
"Stay right here with me, Hannah, help is coming right now," Mark said gently.
Hannah nodded through her heavy tears, resting both hands protectively over her lower stomach.
"She tried to get rid of us, Mark, she wants the trust money for herself," Hannah wept.
Mark stood up slowly, keeping one protective hand resting on Hannah's trembling shoulder.
Victoria hurried down the dark wooden grand staircase, her expensive high heels clicking rapidly.
She stopped five feet away from Mark, holding her arms out in an fake defensive gesture.
"Mark, listen to your mother for one single minute," Victoria said in a shaky voice.
"She lost her balance near the edge because she was wearing improper shoes!" Victoria claimed.
"I reached out to grab her hand and try to save her, I swear it!" she lied.
Hannah looked up from the floor, her tear-stained eyes burning with raw anger and pain.
"You pushed me with both hands, Victoria, and you looked right into my eyes!" Hannah shouted.
Mark stepped directly between his stepmother and his pregnant wife, blocking Victoria completely.
"You have lied to this family for ten long years, Victoria, but it ends today," Mark said.
"The police are five minutes away, and you are not leaving this foyer," he stated firmly.
