Mark sat inside his quiet office and stared down at the thick stack of financial documents.
The family trust fund was supposed to pass directly to his new wife, Hannah, after their upcoming anniversary.
His wealthy stepmother, Victoria, had controlled the entire mansion estate for nearly ten full years.
She never wanted Mark to marry a simple schoolteacher who cared nothing about high society circles.
Victoria loved luxury cars, expensive silk dresses, and holding absolute authority over every family decision.
Hannah walked slowly down the long hallway, resting one hand gently over her visible baby bump.
She was six months pregnant with their very first child, a sweet boy they both already loved.
Victoria stood near the grand wooden railing overlooking the giant white marble foyer downstairs.
Her dark teal pantsuit looked sharp, and her cold eyes followed Hannah's every single step.
"You think you can just walk into this family and claim everything we built," Victoria whispered coldly.
Hannah stopped three feet away, keeping a safe distance from the high balcony edge.
"I do not care about your money or your grand estate, Victoria," Hannah said softly.
"I only care about Mark and building a peaceful life for our growing baby boy," she added.
Victoria scoffed loudly, stepping closer with a dangerous look shining inside her dark eyes.
"My husband left this entire house to my control, and I will never share it," Victoria snapped.
Hannah took a step backward toward the top stair, feeling her heart suddenly beat much faster.
"Mark knows about the original will, Victoria, and he brought a lawyer into the picture," Hannah replied.
Victoria's jaw tightened instantly as her face turned completely pale with boiling anger.
"He would never turn against me unless you forced him to do it!" Victoria shouted loudly.
She raised her hand sharply, pointing her long jeweled finger straight at Hannah's pale face.
Hannah gasped out loud, feeling a sudden surge of total panic grip her entire chest.
"Please stay back, Victoria, I am carrying your grandchild!" Hannah yelled frantically.
Victoria did not slow down, stepping right into Hannah's personal space near the balcony edge.
She shoved her hands forward aggressively, striking Hannah right across her shoulder frame.
Hannah lost her balance completely, slipping backward over the polished wooden balcony step.
Her terrified scream echoed loudly across the wide, empty walls of the marble foyer below.
