Evelyn: You are letting a common servant make a fool out of you, Richard! I am your wife!
Richard: And Leo is my biological son! My only heir! Give me the bag or I will have security take it from you!
Evelyn: This is absurd! I won't be humiliated like this!
Evelyn turned sharply, attempting to walk toward the long driveway where three fire engines and two police cars were coming to a halt with flashing red lights. But Richard moved faster than she expected, grabbing her golden purse strap and snatching the bag directly from her grip.
Evelyn: Give that back to me! That is theft!
Richard: Let's see what's in here...
Richard unzipped the designer leather bag, turning it upside down over the marble patio table. A compact makeup mirror, a gold lipstick tube, a brass key stamped with the study room number, and a silver butane lighter tumbled out onto the white tile.
Sarah: That's the master study key! There are only two in existence—one in Mr. Sterling's pocket, and that one!
Leo: That's the lighter... she lit the papers on the desk with that silver box...
Evelyn: It's a setup! Sarah must have slipped those into my bag when she ran past me in the hallway!
Sarah: I was carrying a thirty-five-pound child through a burning room, Evelyn! How could I possibly slip keys into your zipped purse?!
Richard: You tried to kill my son...
Evelyn: Richard, think rationally for one second! Why would I burn down my own home?!
Richard: Because the prenuptial agreement we signed six months ago stated that if Leo passed away before his seventh birthday, his mother's twenty-million-dollar trust fund would revert directly to me and my surviving spouse!
Evelyn: That's a complete lie! I never even read the trust terms!
Richard: You read every single line with your divorce lawyer three weeks ago! My corporate attorney caught your firm requesting access to the trust fund ledgers!
Two Dallas police officers marched onto the marble patio, stepping around the fire hoses being dragged across the lawn by firefighters.
Officer Davis: Is everyone accounted for out here? We have a massive structure fire upstairs.
Richard: Officer, I need you to arrest this woman immediately. She just attempted to murder my son by locking him inside a burning room.
Evelyn: Officer, he's hysterical! His house is burning down and he's making wild accusations based on a maid's testimony!
Officer Davis: Ma'am, stay right where you are. Sir, what evidence do you have?
Richard: The master study key that was used to deadbolt my six-year-old son inside the room was found inside her zipped purse, along with the lighter used to start the blaze. And my son identified her directly.
Officer Davis: Ma'am, put your hands behind your back.
Evelyn: Don't you dare touch me! Do you know who my father is?! I will have your badge for this!
