Thick black smoke billowed into the bright afternoon sky from the upper balcony of the Sterling estate in Dallas, Texas. Flames crackled furiously inside the white mansion, eating through the wooden beams and tapestry curtains while sirens wailed in the distance.
Inside the choking, smoke-filled hallway, Sarah wiped her soot-stained cheeks with a damp cloth, her eyes burning as tears cut clean tracks down her face. Her maid uniform was torn and covered in gray ash, but she didn't care about the smoke or the scorching heat pressing against her skin.
Sarah: PLEASE HELP ME, ANYBODY! IS ANYONE IN HERE?!
Her voice cracked as she pushed open the heavy wooden door to the master suite. Sitting under a marble console table, huddled into a tiny ball, was six-year-old Leo. His white formal suit was ruined, his small arms wrapped tightly around his knees as he shook with terror.

Without hesitating, Sarah scooped the crying boy up into her arms, pulling him flush against her chest. She wrapped her apron around his head to shield his lungs from the toxic fumes and sprinted through the blinding wall of smoke toward the grand rear exit.
Out on the sunlit marble patio, Richard Sterling and his new wife, Evelyn, stood surrounded by wealthy guests in formal attire. Evelyn wore an emerald green dress, her hands resting calmly over her purse as if watching a theatrical performance rather than a burning house.
Sarah: OUT OF THE WAY! GET HIM A TOWEL!
Sarah burst through the glass doors, coughing violently as she stumbled onto the patio tile, cradling Leo closely. Richard turned, his face instantly draining of all color when he saw his son alive in the maid's arms.
Evelyn: HOW DARE YOU RUIN EVERYTHING!
