The Gold Dress And Hidden Anger

A Greedy Stepmother Harms The Kids And Pays The Price

The morning sun flooded the massive marble hallway of the family mansion with bright light. To anyone standing on the outside looking in, this house represented the absolute peak of American success. Huge windows allowed natural light to cover every single corner of the foyer. A neatly folded United States flag hung inside a glass case near the heavy oak entrance, honoring years of family service. However, inside these spotless white walls, a dark storm had been brewing for months.

Eleanor stood near the bottom of the curved staircase, smoothing down her metallic golden gown. The shiny fabric caught the morning sunlight, making her look wealthy and important. But behind her painted smile was a cold mind focused only on the family fortune. She had married Arthur Vance just six months ago, right after his real estate empire reached a billion-dollar valuation. Arthur was a quiet man who spent long hours in the boardroom negotiating complex land deals, leaving Eleanor alone in the house with his two young kids, Leo and Maya.

Leo was only nine years old, and his little sister Maya was seven. Ever since their biological mother passed away three years prior, the children had relied heavily on each other for comfort. They knew Eleanor did not like them, but they tried their best to stay out of her path. On this particular morning, Leo was holding Maya by the hand as they walked toward the kitchen to get breakfast before school. They were walking quietly on the cold marble floor, wearing their simple school uniforms.

Eleanor: Stop right there! Where do you think you are going?

Leo: We are just going to get breakfast, Eleanor.

Eleanor: Do not speak to me with that tone, you little brat!

before the kids could answer, Eleanor stepped forward in her high heels. Her eyes burned with sudden rage. She saw the children not as human beings, but as obstacles standing between her and Arthur's vast inheritance. If the kids remained in the will, her control over the family trust fund would be limited. She grabbed Leo by the shoulder and shoved him backward with surprising force. Leo lost his balance on the slick polished floor and fell hard, dragging his little sister down with him.

The sound of the heavy thud echoed loudly through the high-ceilinged mansion. Maya began to weep hysterically, clinging tightly to her older brother's sweater. Leo wrapped his arms around his sister, trembling as he looked up at the tall woman towering over them in her shimmering gold dress under the bright sunlight.

Maya: We didn't do anything wrong! Please don't hurt us!

Eleanor: I'm sick of looking at both of you! You ruin my morning every single day!

Eleanor did not care that the children were crying on the cold floor. She pointed a long fingernail down at them, her face twisted with hatred. She believed Arthur was already on his way to his city office for a morning meeting with his divorce lawyer and wealth managers. She thought she was completely alone in the house, free to treat the young children however she pleased without any consequences.
