Evelyn stood up slowly from the stairs with her head held low.
Evelyn: It was all a complete misunderstanding between my husband and me.

Mark handed his smartphone directly to the second police officer present.
The officer reviewed the clear camera footage on the phone screen.
Officer Miller: This video shows clear evidence of child endangerment and abuse.
Officer Davis stepped behind Evelyn and pulled out his metal handcuffs.
Officer Davis: Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for severe child cruelty.
Evelyn: Mark! Please tell them to stop and drop these charges!
Mark: You deserve to face the full consequences of your actions today.
The officers clicked the shiny metal handcuffs around Evelyn's thin wrists.
They guided her out through the front door into the rain.
Mark watched from the doorway as they placed her into the police car.
Lily came down the stairs carrying her small pink back pack carefully.
Lily: Is she gone away from our house forever now daddy?
Mark: Yes honey, she will never come back to hurt you again.
Mark picked up his daughter and gave her a warm tight hug.
He walked over to the hallway table and grabbed his heavy truck keys.
He took one last look at the empty foyer before turning off lights.
They stepped out onto the porch and Mark locked the front door behind them.
The rain had stopped and bright sunlight was breaking through dark clouds.

He climbed into the driver seat and started up the strong engine.
