The Confrontation At The Door

A Father Finds His Daughter's Letter And Exposes The Truth

Mark turned around just as a quiet shadow fell across the hallway floor outside.

Sarah was standing right in the open frame of the bedroom door.

Her face looked completely pale as she saw the paper in Mark's strong hand.

She shifted her weight nervously from one foot to the other.

Sarah: Mark, what are you doing in here right now?

Mark: I am doing what a father is supposed to do.

Sarah: You should not be looking through her personal things.

Mark: She handed this note to me herself because she was terrified.

Sarah took a small step backward into the quiet hallway corridor.

Her eyes darted nervously toward Lilly who was still sitting on the bed.

Sarah: That was supposed to be a private conversation between mother and daughter.

Mark: You lied to our innocent child about her own father!

Sarah: I was only trying to prepare her for the changes coming soon.

Mark: What changes could possibly justify telling her these horrible lies?

Sarah wrung her fingers together in a tight and anxious knot.

She looked down at the carpet instead of meeting Mark's dark stare.

Sarah: You don't understand the pressure I have been under lately.

Mark: That gives you no right to break her little heart!

Lilly pulled her soft blanket up to her chin and watched them silently.

Mark stepped forward to stand directly between Sarah and his daughter.

His tall frame completely blocked Sarah from stepping any closer into the room.

Mark: You told her I was going to abandon her at a school.

Sarah: It was just a misunderstanding on her part.

Mark: You wrote these words clearly with your own pen!

Sarah: I was angry and I did not think she would take it seriously.

Mark: She is nine years old and she trusts everything you say!

Sarah wiped a tear from her cheek with the back of her wrist.

She tried to reach out toward Mark's arm to calm him down.

Mark pulled his arm back instantly to avoid her cold touch.

Mark: Do not touch me after what you just did to her.

Sarah: We can discuss this downstairs like two normal adults.

Mark: No, we are going to settle this right here and now.

Sarah: You are making a huge scene over nothing at all.

Mark: Telling a child her dad does not love her is not nothing!

Lilly began to cry softly again as the voices grew stronger.

Mark heard his daughter's quiet whimpers behind his back.

His expression turned extremely cold as he looked at Sarah's face.

He realized that his wife showed no real regret for her terrible action.

Mark: You have crossed a line that can never be fixed again.

Sarah: Mark, please think about our marriage for one second.

Mark: My only focus right now is protecting Lilly from your cruelty.

Sarah: You cannot just kick me out of my own home!

Mark: Watch me do exactly that to keep her safe.

Mark pointed his long arm firmly toward the front stairs down the hall.

His voice shook the quiet walls of the entire upstairs floor.

Mark: She is my daughter. Get out of this house right now!
