The high foyer grew dead silent as the three adults stared at each other.
Lily clung quietly to her father's hand near the front entrance doors.
Mark: What is inside that envelope, Sarah?
Sarah: The answer to every lie your stepmother told you for ten years.
Sarah slowly broke the round seal on the thick paper sleeve.
Eleanor began walking down the curved staircase with slow cautious steps.
Eleanor: Do not open those private papers in front of my staff.
Sarah: You are scared because your reign is coming to an end today.
Sarah pulled out a formal white document printed on heavy official paper.
The top of the page showed the seal of a certified medical lab.
Large bold letters across the center read verified negative familial relation.
Mark stepped closer to look at the official stamp at the bottom edge.
Mark: Is this a real DNA test from the Dallas state clinic?
Sarah: Yes, it was completed and signed by the chief medical examiner.
Eleanor stopped on the middle landing of the grand stairs.
Her face paled as she recognized the blue header on the top line.
Sarah: You lied to Mark when his father passed away four years ago!
Sarah: You claimed you were the rightful trustee of the family trust fund!
Mark: She showed me the signed will from my father's legal team.
Sarah: That will was based on a complete lie about blood lineage!
Sarah held the document high so the bright sunlight lit up every word.
Sarah: Eleanor is not even related to the Vance family by blood or law!
Eleanor: That document is a total fake created by your corrupt lawyers!
Sarah: You're a liar, and right here today...
Sarah stared up at her with explosive rage pouring from her eyes.
Sarah: Everyone in this city is going to know what you took from us!
Eleanor gasped loudly as her eyes widened in absolute shock and horror.
She clutched her pearl necklace while stepping back against the stair wall.
Sarah turned abruptly on the step and began climbing toward Eleanor with speed.
