Within thirty short minutes, three black police cars pulled up the long driveway.
The bright emergency lights flashed red and blue against the large estate windows.
Two stern officers walked briskly onto the patio where everyone was still gathered.
Sarah stepped forward bravely to give her full statement to the lead officer.
"I saw her grab Lily and force her over the edge," Sarah stated clearly.
Arthur stood beside his daughter, holding her wet little hand very tightly.
"I want this woman removed from my property right now," Arthur told the police.
The lead officer nodded slowly and walked over to where Victoria was standing.
"Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest for child endangerment," the officer announced clearly.
Victoria pulled her hands back quickly, her eyes wide with total disbelief.
"This is a terrible mistake!" she yelled out loud as the cuffs clicked shut.
"I am the lady of this mansion! You cannot touch me!"
The police led the screaming woman away toward the waiting police cruisers.
As she was pushed into the back seat, Arthur turned toward Sarah.
He saw how cold and wet his loyal maid was from saving his daughter.
"You saved my daughter's life today, Sarah," Arthur said, his voice cracking slightly.
"I can never repay you for the brave thing you did just now."
Sarah smiled softly, drying Lily's damp hair with a small warm towel.
"Lily is a sweet girl, Mr. Sterling," Sarah replied quietly.
"I would do it again in a heartbeat to keep her safe."
Arthur took a deep breath, looking out over his vast, quiet property.
He realized that real family was not built on marriage contracts or fake wealth.
It was built on real love, loyalty, and protecting those who cannot fight back.
He brought Lily inside the warm house to get her into dry clothes.
The dark storm over their family had finally passed into clear sky.
