The Threat On The Stairs

A Cruel Stepmother Dropped The Baby Down The Stairs

The morning sun poured through the high glass windows of the grand entrance room.

Light danced across the polished white floor.

A big flag hung on the back wall near the top of the steps.

Everything looked peaceful inside the rich house.

Yet a deep fear filled the quiet air.

A young maid named Sarah stood near the front door.

Her hands trembled against her plain white apron.

She watched the top of the grand staircase with wide eyes.

A woman stood near the wooden railing in a bright green dress.

Her name was Victoria.

Victoria held a small baby wrapped in a light blue blanket.

The baby was only six months old.

His name was Leo.

Leo was the son of a rich businessman named Richard.

Richard was away on a quick business trip across town.

Victoria was Richard's new wife.

She did not like little Leo at all.

She knew the child would get all the family money one day.

Victoria looked down at Sarah with a cruel grin on her face.

Victoria: This child will never inherit my family's wealth!

Sarah: Please ma'am, bring him back down here safely!

Victoria: You do not tell me what to do in my own house!

Sarah: He is just a little baby who needs his father!

Victoria: His father is not here to save him today!

Sarah took a slow step toward the stairs.

She wanted to run up and grab the child.

Victoria pulled the baby closer to the wooden edge.

The little boy began to cry softly.

He did not like the loud tone in Victoria's voice.

Sarah raised her hands to show she meant no harm.

Sarah: Please put him down in his crib!

Victoria: I am sick and tired of looking at his face!

Sarah: Think about what Richard will say when he comes back!

Victoria: Richard will believe whatever story I tell him!

Sarah looked at the telephone on the wall nearby.

It was too far away to reach in time.

She had to keep Victoria talking.

She needed to save the helpless child.

Her heart pounded like a drum inside her chest.

Victoria let out a cold laugh that echoed off the high walls.

She raised the blanket slightly into the air.

Sarah gasped and gripped her apron tight.

Sarah: Do not do this ma'am!

Victoria: Watch me take what belongs to me!

Victoria moved her arms over the top step.

The heavy air in the hallway felt icy cold.

Sarah prepared her feet to run forward.

She knew she had only one chance to save the baby.
