The Shattered Display

Julian: Victoria! Are you crazy?! Get off me!

Victoria: Touch my child again and I will break every bone in your hands!

Julian: She tripped! The clumsy brat tripped into the antique cabinet while I was standing right here!

Victoria: I saw you shove her, Julian! I walked through those front doors and saw your hand on her back!

Victoria shoved him back down onto the cold tile before jumping up and sprinting toward Lily. She carefully stepped through the sea of shattered glass, dropping to her knees regardless of the sharp shards digging into her own knees.

Victoria: Lily! Oh baby, look at Mommy. Don't move, sweetie, don't move!

Lily: Mommy... it hurts so bad! My legs are burning!

Victoria: I know, baby, I know. Mommy is right here. I’m going to pick you up real easy, okay?

Grandma Evelyn: Victoria! Have you lost your mind?! Look at what you just did to your brother! He has an interview with the board members in twenty minutes!

Victoria: Shut your mouth, Evelyn! My seven-year-old daughter is bleeding on the floor and all you care about is Julian's interview?!

Grandma Evelyn: Don't you use that tone with me in this house! Julian is trying to secure the family trust fund merger!

Victoria: I don't give a damn about your merger or your trust fund! Look at her legs!

Lily whimpered as Victoria gently lifted her into her arms, cradling her head against her shoulder to keep her from looking at the deep cuts along her ankles and hands.

Julian: She's fine! It's just a few tiny scratches from cheap glass! Stop overreacting so you can make a grand scene in front of the family!

Victoria: Cheap glass? That antique display was solid crystal, Julian! She has bleeding gashes across her arms!

Julian: Well, maybe if you taught your daughter some manners instead of coddling her, she wouldn't be running around breaking priceless family heirlooms!

Victoria: She was standing near the marble console waiting for me! She wasn't running anywhere!

Julian: You're taking the word of a lying seven-year-old over your own brother?

Victoria: My daughter doesn't lie to me, Julian. But you've been lying to this entire family for five years!

Grandma Evelyn: That is enough, Victoria! You will apologize to Julian right now and help clean up this mess before the guests enter!

Victoria: Apologize? To the man who just threw my daughter into a glass cabinet?

Grandma Evelyn: He didn't throw her! He was trying to catch her before she fell!

Lily: Mommy, no... Uncle Julian wanted the video on my phone... he told me to give it to him or he'd hurt me...

Victoria froze, her arms tightening around Lily as her blood ran completely cold. She looked down at her daughter's tear-stained face, then back at Julian, whose face had suddenly turned pale.

Victoria: What video, Lily? What video were you holding?

Julian: She's confused! She hit her head on the wood when she fell! Don't listen to her nonsense!

Victoria: Lily... tell Mommy what was on the phone.

Lily: I was recording a video for Grandma's birthday in the study... and I saw Uncle Julian putting white papers into his coat from Grandpa's metal desk...

Julian: She's lying! I was never in the study today!

Victoria: Marcus! Call an ambulance and bring my vehicle to the front driveway right now!

Marcus: Yes, Miss Victoria! Right away!

Julian: Don't you dare call an ambulance to this estate! The press will be everywhere!

Victoria: Let them come, Julian. Because by the time they get here, everyone in Los Angeles is going to know what kind of monster you really are.
