The crystal chandeliers of the New York City ballroom reflected blinding light across the white marble floor, casting sharp shadows over the crowd of black-tie guests.
Older Woman: AHHH! Somebody do something! She’s bleeding everywhere!
Screams erupted through the grand hall as Clara, her delicate white lace gown torn and smeared with crimson blood, stumbled frantically backward. Her knees buckled under the crushing weight of pain, sending her crashing hard onto the cold tile floor.
Clara: Stop... please, just stop...
Julian: STOP EMBARRASSING MY FAMILY!
Julian, her high-society groom, stood over her with a sneering, furious expression. He pointed down at her bruised face while hundreds of wealthy guests gasped in horror, yet not a single person stepped forward to help her.
Clara: Julian... I fell into the glass table... my arm is deeply cut...
Julian: I don't give a damn about your arm! Look around this room! You're making a scene in front of every major investor in New York!
Julian's Mother: Get up off the floor this instant, Clara! My family paid millions for this reception, and you are ruining our reputation!
Clara: Your son pushed me... he shoved me because I asked why he transferred my company shares!
Julian: Shut your mouth! You signed the prenup, Clara! You belong to the Sterling family now!
Clara’s trembling, bruised fingers reached out across the polished marble floor toward her smartphone lying just inches away. Her bloody thumb swiped the screen, tapping the speed-dial contact for the one man who had always protected her.
Clara: DAD... DESTROY THEM!
The call disconnected. Julian let out a cruel, mocking laugh, taking a slow step toward Clara as she pulled the cracked phone against her chest.
Julian: You called your old man? What is your washed-up father going to do against the Sterling empire?
Before Julian could finish his sentence, the massive double entrance doors beneath the grand American flag wall display slammed open with a deafening crash that shook the room, revealing an imposing figure standing in the doorway.
