Andrew reached out a trembling hand toward Clara. His dark eyes searched every line of her face, from her tear-stained cheeks to the small curved scar near her left eyebrow. The room fell into a heavy, ringing silence. The only sound was the faint breathing of the two small boys who had finally stopped crying, sensing the sudden shift in the room.
Andrew: Clara... Is it really you? How can this be?
Clara: Andrew... I never wanted to hurt you or the boys...
Victoria: What are you talking about, Andrew? Clara died in that river crash two years ago! The police found her car! This woman is an impostor trying to steal your inheritance!
Andrew paid no attention to Victoria's panicked shrieks. He reached forward and gently took Clara's hand in his own. Her fingers were cold, but her touch was unmistakably real. A sharp gasp escaped Andrew's throat, followed by a heavy pulse of his heart that made his shoulders tremble. Realization washed over him like a wave of cold water, shattering two years of deep grief and buried pain.
Andrew: You are alive... God in heaven, you are standing right in front of me!
Clara: I survived the crash, Andrew... But when I woke up in the hospital in the next state, I had no memory of who I was for over a year.
Leo: Mommy! I told you, Sam! It is really Mommy!
Leo and Sam threw their arms around Clara's neck again, kissing her cheeks with pure joy. Tears poured freely down Andrew's face as he pulled his wife and two sons into a tight, desperate embrace right there on the marble floor. The white apron dress, the velvet tuxedo, and the luxury mansion surroundings vanished; all that mattered was the four of them reunited under the warm sunlight.
Victoria stood frozen in the center of the grand foyer, her face pale with horror. She looked at the family wrapped in each other's arms, then down at the blue dress she wore. Panic quickly replaced her initial anger. She clutched her expensive designer purse tightly, taking a subtle step backward toward the open double doors.
Andrew: Wait right there, Victoria!
Andrew's voice was low and dangerous as he slowly stood up, keeping one protective hand on Clara's shoulder. He turned his head to glare at the woman he was supposed to marry in a few weeks. The warmth in his eyes had completely disappeared, replaced by icy fury.
Andrew: You told me you checked every hospital in three states after the crash. You told me there was no trace of her body or survivor records.
Victoria: I... I did check! The hospital must have made a mistake with the names!
Clara: That is not true, Victoria. I saw the legal papers in your office file last night when I was cleaning.
Clara stood up slowly, holding her sons' hands tightly. She looked Victoria straight in the eye, her voice no longer trembling. The strength of a mother who had fought her way back from the brink of death radiated from her simple black-and-white uniform.
Clara: You knew I was alive six months ago. You paid my medical bills under an anonymous trust fund to keep me in that private care clinic far away so I would never remember my family!
