Lies From The Past

Why Were His Sons Calling The House Maid Their Mommy

The small silver clock on the mantelpiece chimed softly six times in a row.

Andrew stared down at his young twin sons kneeling on the marble floor.

Andrew: Tell me what happened six years ago in that suburban hospital Clara.

Sarah: Do not listen to her crazy made up stories inside this house!

Andrew held up his hand firmly to silence Sarah's loud screaming voice.

The room became completely quiet except for the rain hitting the high glass windows.

Clara: I was told my sweet newborn babies had died during delivery.

Andrew felt his stomach drop as if he were falling down an endless pit.

Andrew: Who told you that our sweet twin boys had died Clara?

Clara: Sarah came to my room with signed fake death certificate documents.

The young twin boys held Clara's arms tight as she spoke those quiet words.

Leo looked up at Andrew with big round eyes full of earnest childhood trust.

Leo: Sarah was always mean to us when you were away at work.

Toby: She told us our real Mommy was gone and never coming back.

Sarah took two frantic steps backward toward the heavy carved front entry door.

Her face had lost all of its natural color in a few short seconds.

Sarah: They are just small children who do not know what they say!

Andrew: Why did Sarah tell you those terrible lies six years ago Clara?

Clara: She offered me money to leave town and never return back here.

Clara wiped a stray tear from her cheek with her rough grey sleeve.

Clara: I refused her money and spent years searching for the real truth.

Andrew remembered how Sarah had suddenly appeared to comfort him six years ago.

She had stepped in right when he was grieving his missing lost wife.

She had convinced him to sign full trust fund documents for the children.

Andrew: You forged those legal medical records to separate us back then.

Sarah: I did everything out of love to save you from poverty Andrew!

Andrew walked over toward the large oak desk in the adjoining sitting room.

He picked up his smartphone and dialed the main city police station number.

Andrew: I am calling our family lawyer and the local police right now.

Sarah gasped loudly and sprinted toward the main double exit doors fast.

She slammed her body against the thick wood in a desperate blind panic.
