The Locket On Floor

Why Were His Sons Calling The House Maid Their Mommy

Andrew dropped his wet leather briefcase onto the cold marble with a crash.

The heavy noise echoed throughout the high ceilings of the quiet luxury mansion.

Clara lowered her eyes while trying to wipe the hot tears from her face.

Andrew: How long have you been working inside this house as a maid?

Clara: I only started this morning through the local temp house agency.

Sarah stepped between Andrew and the kneeling maid with a harsh angry glare.

Her bright blue silk dress rustled loudly against the marble floor as she moved.

Sarah: We need to fire this crazy woman and kick her out now!

Leo: No Daddy please do not let Sarah push our real Mommy away!

Toby reached down into Clara's grey apron pocket and pulled out a golden object.

A small antique brass locket fell onto the shiny floor with a light metallic click.

The delicate gold chain uncoiled across the white marble like a small thin snake.

Andrew knelt down immediately on one knee to retrieve the fallen gold piece.

His hands trembled violently as he picked up the small tarnished oval locket.

Andrew: Where did you get this custom engraved locket from, Clara?

Clara: It is the only thing I had left after the hospital disaster.

Andrew snapped the tiny golden latch open with his shaking right thumb nail.

Inside was an old faded photo of himself holding two newborn baby infants.

Beside his picture was a handwritten message written in his own original blue ink.

Andrew: I wrote these exact words to my loving wife six years ago.

Sarah grabbed Andrew's dark sleeve and tried forcefully to pull him up straight.

Sarah: She must have stolen that expensive locket from your private bedroom drawer!

Toby: She did not steal it because she wore it every single night!

Andrew stood up slowly and stared into Sarah's wide panicked green eyes.

The bright daylight streaming from the high windows exposed her pale nervous expression.

He remembered six years ago when Sarah told him his wife had vanished willingly.

Sarah had claimed that Clara abandoned the newborn twins for money and luxury.

Andrew: You told me she abandoned our children and ran away forever.

Sarah: She did leave you Andrew because she never loved these boys!

Clara raised her tearful face and looked directly into Andrew's angry dark eyes.

Clara: I never left my baby boys willingly for even one single day.

The quiet room suddenly felt colder than the harsh winter rain falling outside.

Andrew felt a sharp pain in his chest as the truth began surfacing.

He turned back to face his young twin sons who were still holding Clara.
