A Sudden Act Of Courage

Why The Maid Grabbed The Baby From The Police Officers

The two police officers stepped closer to Emily with stern faces.

They did not know who she was or why she ran inside.

Police Officer: Lady, put the infant back down immediately.

Emily: If I put him back, he will suffer heat stroke!

Mark: Emily, please explain what you mean right now.

Emily: Someone set this bassinet warmer to ninety-nine degrees!

Mark gasped as he looked closer at the digital display screen.

The small green light had been manually switched to a high setting.

It was designed for medical emergencies under professional human supervision only.

Left alone, the extreme heat would cause severe harm within minutes.

Mark dropped his head into his hands and began to sob heavily.

Tears streamed down his cheeks as deep grief filled his heart.

He felt completely helpless in his own giant secure mansion.

Mark: Who would do something so terrible to my sweet son?

Emily: Someone who wants to control your estate money, Mark.

The police officer looked at his partner with a surprised expression.

Police Officer: Ma'am, do you know who touched this equipment?

Emily: I saw the senior nurse near this machine five minutes ago.

Mark: Nurse Sarah? She was hired by my stepmother last week.

Emily: She was adjusting the hidden dial on the back panel.

Emily carefully loosened the heavy blue blanket around the baby boy.

She allowed the ambient cool air of the room to reach his skin.

The baby began to breathe much slower and appeared far more calm.

Mark looked up from the floor with red and tearful eyes.

He saw the brave maid holding his child with tender care.

Emily had worked in the mansion for only three short months.

She had always been quiet, clean, and extremely hard working every day.

Mark: You saved his life just now, didn't you?

Emily: I did what any caring person would do, sir.

Police Officer: Where is this nurse Sarah right now?

Emily: She walked toward the back kitchen after leaving this room.

The second police officer immediately pulled out his walkie talkie radio.

Police Officer: Unit two, secure all exits on the ground floor now.

Mark stood up slowly from the cold floor and wiped his face.

He walked over to Emily and looked down at his precious infant.

The baby's cheeks were turning back to a healthy light pink color.

Mark: Thank you, Emily. I was too blind to see the danger.

Emily: You are grieving your wife, Mark. You are not to blame.

Suddenly, loud footsteps echoed down the grand hallway outside the room.

A woman in a neat medical uniform appeared in the open doorway.

It was Nurse Sarah, carrying a glass of warm water on a tray.

She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the police officers.

Her face instantly lost all of its natural color and turned pale.

Nurse Sarah: Is... is everything okay in here, officers?

Police Officer: Do not move an inch, ma'am. Stay right there.

Sarah dropped the tray, and the glass shattered across the floor.
