Mark sat on the cold floor of his grand living room.
He looked at the small hospital bassinet sitting near the window.
His newborn baby boy was resting quietly inside the plastic crib.
The room was filled with expensive furniture and large paintings.
A big American flag hung on the white wall behind the couch.
Outside the large glass windows, cars moved quickly down the busy street.
Inside the house, the only sound was a soft medical monitor beep.
Mark was a young father who owned a major tech company.
He had spent millions of dollars on this modern luxury mansion.
Yet, none of his vast wealth could calm his fast beating heart.
His wife had passed away during childbirth just two weeks ago.
Since that painful day, Mark had hired round the clock medical staff.
He wanted his son to have the best care money could buy.
Two police officers stood near the doorway watching the room closely.
They had arrived to investigate a suspicious security threat reported earlier.
Mark wiped a tear from his eye as he reached for the baby.
The baby boy remained completely still inside his blue blanket.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden doors of the living room swung wide open.
A young woman named Emily rushed inside without pausing for permission.
She was wearing a simple maid uniform and looked totally out of breath.
Her face was red and her eyes were wide with deep panic.
She pushed past the two tall police officers standing near the entry.
Police Officer: Hey, you cannot enter this room right now!
Emily: Get out of my way! There is no time to waste!
Emily ran straight toward the bassinet near the center of the room.
She dropped to her knees right beside the kneeling father.
Mark stared at her in complete shock and deep confusion.
Mark: Emily... What are you doing?
Emily ignored his question and leaned close over the tiny baby.
She gently blew cool air onto the infant's flushed cheeks.
Emily: Stop warming him right now!
Mark: Why are you touching him like that?
Emily: Look at the digital screen on the warmer, Mark!
Mark shifted his gaze toward the small control panel below the bed.
The temperature reading was flashing red with an unusually high number.
Emily: Someone changed the internal settings while you were answering the door.
Mark: That is impossible, the doctor set it this morning.
Emily: The doctor left twenty minutes ago, Mark.
The police officers stepped forward with their hands near their belts.
Police Officer: Ma'am, back away from the child right now.
Emily: Look at his breathing pattern, officer!
The baby was breathing very fast and his tiny chest moved rapidly.
Sweat was forming on his little forehead under the warm lights.
Mark felt a cold wave of terror sweep through his chest.
He had trusted his house staff and private guards completely until today.
He did not understand why anyone would harm an innocent child.
Mark: Is he in real danger right now, Emily?
Emily: Yes, his body temperature is rising way too fast.
Emily reached into the plastic bassinet with trembling gentle hands.
She lifted the small boy up into her arms without hesitation.
She held him tight against her cool cotton apron to lower his heat.
Mark reached out his hands in total desperation and pure panic.
Mark: Please, stop! What is happening to him?!
Emily: Trust me for one minute, please!
She turned her body away from the direct heat of the machine.
The baby let out a faint crying sound as the cool air hit him.
The tension inside the large room reached a scary breaking point.
