The morning sun shone brightly over the pristine white marble patio of the grand estate.
Seven-year-old Tommy walked carefully along the edge of the crystal blue swimming pool.
He was holding his favorite toy boat and smiling softly in the warm summer air.
Behind him stood Eleanor, his step-grandmother, wearing her long silk patterned robe.
Eleanor had never liked Tommy or his mother Evelyn since they moved into the mansion.
She watched the little boy with a cold and distant look in her eyes.
Without saying a single word, Eleanor stepped forward and deliberately pushed Tommy from behind.
The boy lost his balance and splashed heavily into the deep end of the pool.
The sudden cold water rushed over Tommy as he struggled to reach the surface.
Underneath the surface, the bright sunlight filtered through the shimmering blue water.
Tommy kicked his small legs desperately as he fought his way back up.
His face broke through the surface, and he began to gasp wildly for air.
Tears mixed with the pool water streaming down his frightened cheeks.
He reached his hands toward the edge of the patio, crying out as loud as he could.
Tommy: Mommy, help me! Please help me!
Meanwhile, Eleanor calmly walked over to her poolside lounge chair.
She sat down slowly and picked up a glass of iced juice from the small glass table.
She took a small sip while listening to the boy splash desperately in the water.
Her face showed complete indifference to the child crying out for help right in front of her.
She placed the glass back down with a tiny clinking sound against the glass top.
Inside the estate kitchen, Evelyn was preparing a light lunch for her son.
She suddenly heard the frantic cries coming from the bright backyard.
Her heart dropped instantly as she recognized her young son's panicked voice.
She dropped the wooden spoon she was holding right onto the clean granite counter.
Evelyn ran through the open french doors in her light floral summer dress.
Her rapid footsteps echoed across the bright patio deck as she raced toward the water.
She did not pause for even a second when she reached the poolside.
Evelyn plunged headfirst into the swimming pool with a massive splash.
She kicked her legs hard, swimming directly toward her helpless young son.
She wrapped her strong arms securely around Tommy's waist and pulled him close.
Together they rose to the edge of the swimming pool.
Evelyn lifted Tommy carefully out of the water onto the safe marble tiles.
She pulled herself up quickly right beside him, shivering from the cold shock.
Tommy held onto his mother tightly, his body shaking with deep frightened sobs.
Evelyn wrapped a dry towel around his shoulders and pulled him close into her lap.
Evelyn: It is okay, sweetie, Mommy has got you now.
Just then, the glass doors opened again with a heavy force.
Mark, Tommy's father, came rushing out onto the patio in his sharp business suit.
He had just returned home early from the city corporate office.
He saw his wife dripping wet and his son trembling wildly on the floor.
Mark hurried over to his family with an expression of intense worry.
He knelt down beside Evelyn and placed a firm hand on his son's shaking shoulder.
Mark: What happened here? Are you both alright?
Tommy looked up from his mother's shoulder, his face completely red from crying.
He pointed his small shaking finger directly toward Eleanor sitting nearby.
Tommy: She pushed me into the deep water!
Mark turned his head slowly to look at his stepmother sitting in her chair.
Eleanor set her glass down again and narrowed her eyes slightly at the boy.
Mark's face shifted instantly from fear to absolute anger.
He stood up slowly from the marble floor, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
He turned toward Eleanor and began walking straight toward her.
