The Monster On The Balcony

When A Desperate Father Caught His Free-Falling Child

Arthur: Who pushed what? Elena, catch your breath and tell me right now what just happened to my child!

Elena: Mrs. Keller! She walked right out to the edge of the second-story railing and shoved the baby stroller straight down over the edge!

Arthur: Clara? Are you out of your absolute mind? What kind of monster tries to kill an infant?

Elena: I barely caught the carriage before it smashed into the marble floor, sir. Look at the baby, she won't stop crying from the shock!

Arthur: Give her to me. Let me hold my child. Elena, call an ambulance and secure the front gates immediately.

Elena: Right away, sir. I'm locking every exit so nobody can leave this property until the police arrive.

Arthur took the trembling infant out of the stroller into his arms, his face turning an ash-gray color as he looked down at the weeping baby wrapped in a soft blanket.

Arthur: Daddy's here. I've got you, my sweet angel. Nothing like this will ever happen to you again in your life.

Elena: Check her little arms and legs, sir. The stroller fell at such a terrifying speed before I managed to slide underneath it.

Arthur: She's breathing, but she's completely traumatized. How could anyone do this? How could a mother push her own flesh and blood?

Elena: She didn't even hesitate, Mr. Keller. That's the part that terrifies me the most. She looked completely cold while she did it.

Arthur: Greed. That's what this is. She wanted the estate trust transferred entirely into her name before our divorce proceedings finalized next month.

Elena: But attempting to take an infant's life? That goes far beyond a normal dispute or a messy marriage separation!

Arthur: That goes straight into federal prison territory. She crossed a line that can never, ever be uncrossed.

Elena: I hear footsteps coming down the main staircase now. She's heading right toward us with that same cold look!

Arthur: Good. Let her face me before the authorities get here. Let's see what excuse she cooks up for attempted murder.

Elena: Be careful, sir. She looks completely unhinged this morning, standing up there in that cream-colored dress like nothing happened.

Arthur: She needs more than a dress today. She needs a miracle to survive what I am about to do to her.

Elena: I'll step back and watch the baby while you handle her, Mr. Keller. Just don't let her escape through the side corridor.

Arthur: She isn't going anywhere. This house is locked down tight.

Clara: Marcus, darling, why are you making such a dramatic fuss over a simple household accident?

Arthur: Don't you dare call me darling after what I just saw with my own eyes!

Clara: The brakes on that old stroller slipped while I was adjusting the nursery curtains near the landing. It could happen to anyone!

Arthur: The brakes were locked, Clara! Elena checked them yesterday, and I saw you use both hands to shove it over the rail!

Clara: You're overwrought and hysterical. Put the child down and let's discuss our divorce settlement like civilized adults in the study.

Arthur: There is nothing to discuss. The security cameras in this foyer record every single angle twenty-four hours a day.

Clara's face turned pale instantly, the defensive panic in her eyes shifting into genuine, unfiltered terror as the reality of the surveillance system hit her.

Clara: The... the security cameras? I thought the maintenance crew turned them off this morning for system upgrades.

Arthur: Ah, so you did plan it! You admitted you expected them to be offline! That proves premeditated intent right there!
