Mark picked up the cell phone from the charger desk.
He dialed the number saved under his brother's name.
The phone rang three times before a deep voice answered.
Thomas: Mom, is everything alright at the farm house?
Mark: This is not Mom, Thomas.
Mark: This is your younger brother, Mark.
There was a long silent pause on the phone line.
Mark could hear heavy breathing on the other end.
Thomas: Did you finally find the hidden steel vault?
Mark: I just broke down the plaster wall today.
Thomas: I am coming over to the house right now.
Mark hung up the phone and set it on the desk.
He turned back toward his weeping mother in the room.
Mark: Why didn't you trust me with this secret?
Eleanor: I wanted to spare you from the endless lawsuits.
Mark: I am a grown man now, Mom.
Mark: We could have fought those bad lawyers together.
Eleanor: Your father made me promise to keep you safe.
Mark: Hiding my brother was not keeping me safe.
Lily walked carefully into the hidden concrete chamber room.
She looked up at the tall shelves filled with folders.
Lily: Is my uncle coming to visit us today?
Mark: Yes, Lily, your uncle is coming home now.
Eleanor wiped her tears away with a white handkerchief.
She looked around the vault that held thirty years of secrets.
The heavy weight of her burden seemed to finally lift.
Eleanor: I am so sorry for keeping this from you.
Mark: I understand why you were scared, Mom.
Mark: But the hiding ends today for our whole family.
A car door slammed loudly out in the front driveway.
Footsteps echoed across the wooden porch outside the front door.
