The Brother Arrives

The Wicked Stepmother Claimed The Mansion Until Security Showed Everything

Outside the massive front entrance, tires shrieked violently against the hot driveway pavement as a dark SUV slammed to a complete halt. Mark sprang out of the vehicle before the engine even turned off, his sharp suit coat flying open as he sprinted up the wide marble steps. He was a tall, heavily built man with intense eyes and a fierce devotion to his younger sister. He had received Elena's panicked text message two hours earlier while finishing his military discharge paperwork at the base. Mark knew Victoria was dangerous, but he never imagined she would put her hands on his sister inside their own childhood home. He grabbed the heavy double glass doors, pulling them open with such sudden strength that the metal frame rattled against the structural brick wall. The loud noise echoed like a thunderclap through the cavernous entry foyer, instantly cutting off Victoria's cruel laughter.

Mark charged forward through the threshold, his dark dress shoes slapping hard against the white marble floor as his gaze swept the room. His eyes narrowed instantly when he spotted Elena curled up on the cold floor, her clothes torn and her hands bruised from the broken glass. Right beside her stood Victoria, wearing her expensive plum dress with a fake, theatrical look of horror suddenly plastered across her face. The moment Victoria heard the doors open, her malicious grin vanished completely, replaced by a well-rehearsed expression of deep fear and innocence. She dropped down onto her knees right near Elena, throwing her hands into the air and pointing an accusing finger down at the injured girl.

Victoria: Mark, thank God you finally arrived! Help me! She attacked me! She has completely lost her mind!

Mark: Get away from my sister right now, Victoria!

Victoria: She snapped, Mark! She started throwing glass at me because I told her she had to move her boxes out today!

Elena: Mark... she is lying... she shoved me to the ground and smashed mom's picture frame!

Victoria: Do not listen to her lies! Look at my hands! She tried to push me down the concrete stairs!

Mark: Shut your mouth, Victoria! Do you really think I am as blind and gullible as the court lawyers?

Mark took three slow, heavy steps toward the center of the foyer, his towering presence filling the bright room with intense tension. Victoria scrambled back slightly, keeping her voice high pitched and frantic to maintain her theatrical story of self defense. She thought that without any physical witnesses present in the private residence, the police would treat the situation as a simple domestic dispute between grieving family members. She had used this exact tactic twice before in her previous marriages, securing fat cash settlements from wealthy men who wanted to avoid public scandals. But Mark was not a passive civilian who could be easily manipulated by emotional outbursts and false tearful pleas.

Mark stood directly between Victoria and his injured sister, his chest rising and falling with deep, controlled breaths of raw anger. He looked down at the shattered picture frame on the floor, recognizing his mother's smile trapped beneath the cracked glass cover. The sight of his family's sacred memories destroyed by a greedy outsider made his blood boil beneath his skin. He reached into his inner suit jacket pocket, pulling out a sleek black digital tablet that was connected directly to his personal secure cloud storage account. Victoria watched his hands carefully, a tiny flicker of genuine anxiety finally appearing in the back of her sharp eyes as Mark tapped the bright glass screen twice.
