The heavy front doors clicked shut, bringing silence to the massive hall.
Clara let out a long breath she felt like she held for months.
Arthur turned to her and gently cupped her face in his warm hands.
"I am so sorry I was not here to protect you earlier," he whispered.
"You came back in time," Clara replied, placing her hand over his.
"That is the only thing that matters to me right now."
Mr. Vance closed his briefcase with a quiet metallic click sound.
"I will handle the rest of the property transfer paperwork, Arthur."
"Thank you, Vance," Arthur said, shaking the older man's hand firmly.
"We appreciate everything you did to bring the truth to light today."
The lawyer gave a polite nod to Clara before exiting the house quietly.
Arthur led Clara over to the grand velvet sofa near the fireplace.
He helped her sit down comfortably and placed a soft pillow behind her.
"You will never have to clean another floor in your life," he said.
Clara smiled faintly and looked down at her simple uniform dress.
"I just want our child to grow up in a peaceful home, Arthur."
"This home will be filled with love from this day forward," he promised.
He knelt on the soft rug in front of her and kissed her hands.
The light from the high windows shone brightly across the clean marble floor.
The dark shadows of fear and abuse had finally left the grand estate.
Arthur reached out and gently touched her stomach with a smile.
"Our baby is going to have a wonderful life right here with us."
Clara felt a soft kick from within and let out a genuine tear of joy.
For the first time in two long years, she felt safe and free.
The US flag on the wall seemed to hold a new meaning now.
It stood for justice restored after a long struggle in the dark.
Arthur stood up and wrapped his arms around his wife's shoulders.
Together, they looked out at the bright sun shining through the glass doors.
A fresh chapter of peace and truth was finally beginning for them both.
