Mark sat at his large wooden desk inside his quiet corner office down town.
He was a very wealthy man who built a big business from nothing.
His phone rang on the desk and he picked it up quickly.
It was his young daughter Elena calling him from their house.
She sounded very scared on the phone and was breathing very fast.
Mark felt a cold chill run down his back immediately.
"Daddy, you need to come home right now," Elena whispered softly.
"What is wrong, sweetie?" Mark asked as he stood up from his chair.
"Victoria is acting very mean to the baby today," Elena said.
Victoria was Mark's new wife whom he married six months ago.
She always wore expensive clothes and talked very softly around Mark.
Mark thought Victoria was a kind mother to his young children.
He grab his car keys off the polished desk right away.
"I am leaving my office right now, Elena," Mark said softly.
"Stay in your room until I get there," he added quickly.
He ran out of his office building toward the parking garage.
His mind was racing with dark thoughts about his new family life.
He had hired a new maid named Anna just last week to help.
Anna was a very quiet worker who kept her head down always.
Mark started his luxury car and sped through the busy city streets.
He hoped that his little girl was just overreacting to something small.
Deep inside his heart, he felt that something was very wrong.
The drive home usually took thirty minutes during the heavy afternoon traffic.
Mark pressed his foot down on the gas pedal to hurry faster.
The sky turned dark gray as heavy rain began to fall outside.
He turned his windshield wipers on to see the slick road ahead.
He loved his new baby boy David more than anything in life.
David was only six months old and needed constant loving care.
Victoria had promised to care for David like her own child.
Mark gripped the steering wheel tight until his knuckles turned pure white.
He prayed that his baby boy was completely safe right now.
