The Lies in the Hallway

Richard: Clara, what did you just say to me?

Clara: I said she broke into the mansion! She started screaming and threw herself onto the floor to make it look like I hurt her! Look at her, Richard! She's trying to destroy our marriage and take your family estate!

Elena: That’s not true... Richard, she pushed me... she shoved me so hard...

Clara: Shut up, you liar! Don't listen to her, Richard! You know how unstable she's been since the divorce papers were mentioned!

Richard took three slow, deliberate steps into the foyer. His face was deadpan, his jaw clenched tightly as his eyes moved from Clara’s maroon gown down to Elena sobbing on the floor.

Richard: Get away from her, Clara.

Clara: Honey, I’m trying to protect you! She came here demanding money from your father's life insurance payout! She said she was going to sue us for full custody of the unborn baby!

Elena: I never said that... I came to show you the medical records, Richard... please, I can't stand up...

Clara: See? She's faking it! Get up, Elena! Stop acting like a victim!

Clara reached down to grab Elena’s arm to pull her up forcibly, but Richard’s voice boomed across the marble room like thunder.

Richard: Don't you dare touch her!

Clara: Why are you taking her side?! I am your wife! I am the mistress of this estate!

Richard: You think I'm blind, Clara? You think I don't know what kind of monster you are?

Clara: What are you talking about?! I've done everything for this family! I saved your business from foreclosure! I managed the penthouse properties!

Elena: Richard... the pain... it hurts so bad...

Richard: Hang on, Elena. Don't move. Just stay still.

Clara: Why are you comforting her?! She's trying to steal your inheritance!

Richard: The inheritance means nothing to me if my child is in danger!

Clara: It's not even your child! She's lying to you!

Richard: Stop talking, Clara. Just stop talking.

Clara: No! I won't let you ruin our financial future for this gold-digger! We have a prenup for a reason!

Richard: Look up at the ceiling, Clara.

Clara: What?

Richard: I said, look up at the ceiling above the main chandelier.

Clara frowned, her heavy makeup hardening as she tilted her head back slightly. Right near the center dome, a sleek black indoor dome security camera was mounted into the crown molding. A bright red LED light pulsed steadily in the quiet room.

Clara: So what? It's just security.

Richard: That camera isn't just security, Clara. I installed a 4K direct cloud feed yesterday morning after the legal team warned me about missing funds in the trust account.

Clara: What does that have to do with anything?!

Richard: It has high-definition audio and wide-angle visual streaming directly to my phone. I watched the entire thing live while my car pulled into the driveway.

Clara’s face went pale, the color draining from her cheeks as her mouth fell slightly open.

Clara: Richard... wait... you don't understand...

Richard: I saw you shove her with both hands, Clara. I heard every single word you said to her.

Clara: It was a mistake! I panicked!

Richard: You didn't panic. You tried to murder my unborn baby!
