The Stepmother Pushed Her Down The Grand Staircase

The crystal chandeliers of the Sterling estate hummed softly above the grand marble foyer, casting a bright glare over the polished stone. American flags flanked the sweeping double staircase, adding a stately dignity to the massive home. But inside the mansion, the air was thick with tension as raised voices echoed off the high ceilings.

Clara: You need to leave this house right now before Arthur gets back!

Elena: I'm not going anywhere, Clara. Arthur deserves to know what you've been doing with his life insurance funds!

Clara: You have no proof of anything, you ungrateful little brat!

Clara stood at the top of the balcony in a fitted blue dress, her face red with frustration as she gestured wildly toward the front doors. Standing near the edge of the top landing, Elena gripped the wooden railing, her knuckles turning white under the heavy hall lights.

Elena: The bank records came in this morning! You transferred three million dollars out of the family trust fund yesterday!

Clara: That money was mine to manage! I am Arthur's wife!

Elena: You're his third wife, Clara, and you've been draining his accounts since the day you married him!

Clara: Shut your mouth!

Clara lunged forward with a sharp scream, her hands shoving violently against Elena's shoulders. Elena gasped as her heels slipped off the top marble step. She grabbed frantically for the handrail, but her fingers found only air.

A horrific series of heavy thuds echoed through the foyer as Elena tumbled headfirst down the steep marble staircase. Her white dress twisted around her limbs as she hit step after step before crashing motionless onto the cold floor at the bottom.

Up on the balcony, Clara stared down with wide, panicked eyes, her hand covering her agape mouth in utter disbelief at what she had just done.

At that exact moment, the double front doors swung wide open. Arthur Sterling stepped inside, holding his leather briefcase, only to freeze in pure horror at the sight before him.

Arthur: Elena!

Arthur dropped his briefcase, sprinting across the marble floor toward his daughter's limp body. He dropped to his knees, his hands shaking as he checked her breathing, his face twisting into an expression of raw, furious despair as he glared up toward the balcony.
