Nora: You struck me! A stepson laid hands on his late father's widow!
Tyler: You are fortunate Deputy Miller is standing here, Nora, or you wouldn't be breathing right now.
Nora: I took care of your father for fifteen years while you were off working on offshore oil rigs!
Tyler: You locked my pregnant wife inside a metal oven with no water for six hours!
Sarah: Tyler... My ribs hurt so bad... The air was so hot in there...
Tyler: Sit right here on the truck tailgate, baby. Let me pour some cold water over your hands.
Tyler gently lifted his wife onto the open tailgate of his pickup truck, wrapping his clean flannel jacket over her shoulders.
Sarah's maternity dress was soaked in cold sweat, her face pale and streaked with dark tears.
Nora: She walked in there on her own, Deputy! She was looking for garden tools!
Deputy Miller: Mrs. Vance, did the door padlock itself from the outside?
Nora: The wind blew it shut! The latch fell into place by accident!
Deputy Miller: Heavy industrial padlocks don't lock themselves with a key from forty feet away, ma'am.
Tyler: Where was the key, Deputy?
Deputy Miller: Right here in Nora's front shirt pocket, Tyler. Along with a receipt for that new lock from the hardware store this morning.
Tyler stared at the brass key dangling from the officer's gloved fingers, his teeth grinding together until his jaw ached.
Tyler: You bought the padlock at eight in the morning, Nora.
Nora: I bought it to secure my late husband's antique tractor tools!
Sarah: She came to the kitchen door with a glass of lemonade, Tyler... She told me the nursery furniture had arrived in the barn.
Tyler: She lured you out here behind the barn?
Sarah: She told me to look inside the shed to see the crib... The moment I walked through the door, she slammed it shut behind me.
Nora: She is a lying, ungrateful gold-digger! She wants this ranch for her own family!
Sarah: I begged her through the tin wall, Tyler! I told her I couldn't breathe in the heat!
Tyler: What did she say to you through the door, Sarah?
Sarah: She laughed... She said our baby would never inherit a single acre of the Sterling estate.
Tyler's vision flashed red as he took two fast steps toward the woman pinned against the squad car.
Deputy Miller: Tyler, hold back. Let me do my job.
Tyler: She tried to suffocate my unborn son, Miller! In ninety-five-degree Texas summer heat!
Deputy Miller: And she's going to answer for every second of it in front of a district judge.
Nora: Call my attorney, Deputy! Call Richard Vance in downtown Fort Worth right now!
Deputy Miller: You'll get your one phone call from the county jail booking room, Nora.
Tyler: Richard Vance isn't picking up the phone today, Nora.
Nora's wrinkled sneer froze, her pale gray eyes darting between Tyler and the open patrol car door.
Nora: What are you talking about? Richard is the senior managing partner of the firm!
Tyler: Richard was arrested by state troopers at the county courthouse thirty minutes ago.
Nora gasped, her shoulders jerking hard against the steel cuffs behind her back.
Nora: Arrested?! That's a ridiculous lie you're making up to scare me!
Tyler: Check the glove box of my truck, Deputy Miller. Pull out the red legal folder.
