The Stepmother Locked My Pregnant Wife In The Metal Shed

The gravel driveway crunched beneath the tires of the sheriff's patrol car behind the old farmhouse barn.

Dust hung in the hot afternoon air around the rusted corrugated tin building at the tree line.

Nora: Get your filthy hands off my arms! You have no right to touch me on my own land!

Tyler: Shut your mouth, Nora! Where is Sarah?! Tell me where my wife is right now!

Nora: No! I don't know what you're talking about! She took her suitcase and left for Dallas hours ago!

Tyler pushed the elderly woman in the plaid shirt back against the wooden fence post, his hands shaking with blind rage.

Deputy Miller stepped up to the rusted double door of the shed, lifting a pair of heavy yellow steel bolt cutters.

The steel jaws snapped down across the thick iron padlock with a loud, ringing crack of shattered metal.

The padlock clattered into the dirt as the heavy tin door creaked wide open on squeaking hinges.

Inside the sweltering darkness, seven months pregnant Sarah sat curled on a damp woolen blanket, weeping hysterically.

Sarah: Tyler! Oh God, Tyler, please help me!

Tyler: Sarah! Baby, I'm right here! I've got you!

Tyler tore his gaze away from his stepmother and fell to his knees on the dirt floor inside the shed.

Sarah: Don't you ever touch my family again! Don't you ever come near my baby!

Deputy Miller clicked his tactical flashlight on, sweeping the narrow beam across the wooden workbench against the corrugated wall.

The bright white beam illuminated a roll of heavy silver duct tape, Sarah's smashed smartphone, and an eight-inch hunting knife sitting beside a handwritten note.

Tyler pulled his sobbing wife into his chest, looking up at the deputy in sick horror.

Tyler: Officer, arrest her for attempted murder!

Deputy Miller spun around, shoving Nora face-first against the tin siding as the steel handcuffs clicked shut around her wrists.

Tyler walked out of the shed into the daylight, his knuckles white as his right hand cracked hard across Nora's wrinkled face.

Tyler: Ah!

Nora tumbled into the weeds, unaware that the paper on the shelf would destroy her forever.
