The Fall Of Victoria

Victoria: That's... that's a digital copy! My lawyer prepared that as a draft before your father died!

Carter: The notary stamp has a live digital bar code from the state court, Victoria. It was logged into the registry on the fifteenth of last month.

Victoria: Carter... please... listen to me! I did it for us! I wanted to secure our family's control over the board of directors!

Carter: You forged a dead man's signature to strip a disabled girl of her inheritance money so you could dump it into your father's failing firm!

Victoria: My father's firm is going to recover! We just needed short-term capital!

Carter: You didn't frame Elena because you thought she stole a necklace. You framed her because she saw this envelope in your coat this morning!

Elena nodded slowly, fresh tears filling her eyes as she looked at Carter.

Elena: Yes, Mr. Sterling. When I was hanging up her coat in the closet, the envelope fell out on the floor. I picked it up and saw your father's name. She caught me looking at it and screamed at me to get out.

Carter: And twenty minutes later, she planted her diamond necklace in your cleaning bag so she could have you fired and arrested before you could speak to me.

Victoria: She's a servant! Nobody would have believed her over me anyway!

Carter: I believe her. And so will the state prosecutor.

Carter pulled his smartphone from his inner jacket pocket, his fingers tapping the screen as he brought the device to his ear.

Victoria: Carter, no! Don't call the authorities! Think about the press! Think about the corporate stock price tomorrow morning!

Carter: Detective Vance? This is Carter Sterling. I need you to bring a squad unit to my estate immediately.

Victoria: Carter! Stop!

Carter: I have high-definition video evidence of a planted theft, along with a forged state document involving my late father's estate trust.

Victoria: You ungrateful brute! I gave you two years of my life! I gave up my career in New York for you!

Carter: You gave up nothing, Victoria. You came into my house like a parasite to bleed my family dry.

Distant sirens began to wail down the long driveway outside the mansion, their red and blue lights flashing against the tall stained-glass windows of the foyer.

Victoria's legs gave out, her dark velvet dress crumpling around her as she collapsed onto the hard marble floor, sobbing hysterically as her multi-million-dollar nightmare came crashing down around her.
