Lily ran upstairs to her bedroom to grab a colorful drawing she had finished that morning.
She wanted to show her father the painted picture before he left for his business meeting.
Gwen stepped out onto the marble balcony landing right as Lily passed by the upper railing.
"Why are you running around the house so loudly?" Gwen asked with a cold and harsh voice.
"I just want to give Daddy my drawing!" Lily answered as she held the piece of paper.
Gwen grabbed the drawing out of Lily's hands and tore the paper into small pieces instantly.
Lily gasped in shock as the white paper bits floated down toward the hard marble floor below.
"You need to stop running to your father for everything!" Gwen shouted angrily at the girl.
Tears filled Lily's eyes as she backed away slowly toward the white marble balcony railing.
"You are mean to me!" Lily cried out while wiping her wet face with her shirt sleeve.
Arthur heard the sharp shouting from downstairs and immediately stopped near the front wooden door.
He looked up toward the bright upper balcony with a look of deep worry on his face.
"Gwen, what is going on up there?" Arthur yelled out from the bottom of the foyer.
Gwen ignored Arthur's voice and stepped closer to the terrified child standing near the edge.
Her face was red with anger as she lost control of her emotions in that moment.
"You ruin everything in this house!" Gwen screamed while reaching out toward Lily's small shoulders.
Lily tried to pull away, but her feet slipped on the smooth white marble flooring.
Gwen pushed her hands forward in a sudden fit of rage near the open decorative rail.
The sudden shove sent the helpless young girl leaning far over the low protective balcony edge.
Lily lost her balance completely and tumbled backward into the open air above the foyer.
A loud scream echoed through the entire house as the girl began falling toward the floor.
